A San Diego Zoo mosaic (1977), at Home Savings Pacific Beach branch in California Artist Millard Owen Sheets (June 24, 1907 March 31, 1989) was an American artist, teacher, and architectural designer, who was one of the earliest of the California scenes painting artists group, and participant at Hillcrest Festival of Fine Arts. Many of his large-scale building-mounted mosaics from the mid-20th century are still extant in Southern California. Millard Sheets grew up in... the Pomona, CA near Los Angeles. He attended the Chouinard Art Institute and studied with F. Tolles Chamberlin and Clarence Hinkle. While he was still a teenager, his watercolors were accepted for exhibition in the annual California Water Color Society shows. By 19 years of age, he was elected into membership. David Andrea del Verrocchio's bronze statue of David was most likely made between 1473 and 1475. It is claimed that Verrocchio modeled the statue after another famous artist, his pupil Leonardo da Vinci at age 15.
