With a long and strong family legacy, Becky Field Areias, Margie's daughter, now leads the direction of Hilgenfeld Mortuary toward its 100th year. While keeping with the traditions of the family business, she has been met with the challenges of operating during a world-wide pandemic, something which last occurred less than a decade before Hilgenfeld Mortuary was founded. Thanks to the professional and dedicated staff she works with daily, Becky is confident about future as Hilgenfeld Mortuary approaches its second century.

Melvin and Alma's daughter, Margie Hilgenfeld Field was the next president of Hilgenfeld Mortuary. She began working for the family business in 1981 as an accountant and served until her passing in 2015. Under the Margie's direction, the mortuary continued its tradition of providing compassionate care to their clients and also increased their community and civic involvement to the local Anaheim Community. Something that continues today under the direction of Margie's daughter Becky. For more history on Hilgenfeld Mortuary visit: http://www.hilgenfeldmortuary.com/about-us.html

It was in 1942 that Hilgenfeld Mortuary moved to its current location, 120 E. Broadway, from their original building just down the street. The facility expanded in 1963 with the addition of the chapel, which was a dream of both Samuel and Melvin Hilgenfeld. Samuel passed away shortly after its completion. Though nearly 80 years old, the facility is still well suited for the business and offers clients a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere as they deal with the recent loss of a loved one. The second generation of leadership for the Hilgenfeld Mortuary family was Melvin, Samuel and Lydia's son. He took over running the business from his father and expanded the family's involvement and influence in the industry with his involvement with the Los Angeles College of Mortuary Sciences. He began the College's president in 1943. Melvin's legacy continued after his death in 1984, with the Hilgenfeld Foundation Scholarship which supports students interested in pursuing education in the funeral industry. Pictured here are Melvin and his wife Alma.

This month we celebrate our 93rd year of serving the North Orange County community. We are very proud of our family heritage and want to recognize Reverend Samuel Hilgenfeld who founded Hilgenfeld Mortuary 1927 right here in Anaheim. He was a man dedicated to providing compassionate and caring service in an industry not always known for personalized attention. Reverend Hilgenfeld is pictured here with his wife Lydia. During these stressful times, especially for those who have lost loved ones, the importance of maintaining friendships is imperative. Friends are those we can rely on when life gets difficult as well as joyous. Although we cannot be together in person right now, take time to reach out, via phone, text, zoom, email or mail. You'll bring a light into someone else's life as well as your own.

Covid-19 is still impacting our ability to serve our clients in the traditional manner. Social distancing is in place with a current restriction of 25 people allowed in our chapel at a time and for our viewings. To help families memorialize their loved ones, we are offering duplicate services and up to 3 - 45 minute viewings, as well as live streaming for all services. Please contact one of our knowledgeable staff members for additional information for our roll as Last Responders during the COVID-19 crisis.
