Some of the campgrounds in Yosemite are opening for reservations tomorrow, Thursday, April 15!

Highway120Adventure 24.04.2021

Today in Yosemite Valley, blue skies and the river running a little higher this week. Spring beauty! (We could really use some more rain, and more snow in the high country, but it sure is nice weather for hiking.)

This week, we take time to acknowledge our public safety dispatchers and the work they perform. In Yosemite, we are fortunate to have dispatchers staffing the c...enter 24 hours per day, seven days per week. In addition to providing service to Yosemite, our 11 dispatchers support Lassen Volcanic National Park, Devils Postpile National Monument, and Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. It is a very busy center with numerous telephone lines and radio channels. These dedicated professionals come to work during adverse conditions and provide a critical link to to emergency services in the parks they serve. #NPSTW2021

Few natural, photographic events have roused more international attention and intrigue than Horsetail Fall. The story by now is legend. Every year, between mi...d to late February, the sun sets at just the proper physical degree to refract light in brilliant yellows, oranges and reds in the cascading water rolling off of El Capitan’s eastern buttress. For the most part, Horsetail Fall flowed with anonymity while casual observers passed it by; that is until a young climber and photographer named Galen Rowell changed the course of history. When Mr. Rowell was driving around Yosemite Valley in February of 1973, it was his own combination of kismet and photographic agility as well as recklessness that left its indelible mark on Yosemite. Simply stated, Galen Rowell broke multiple laws to make the image, most notably speeding around the valley to get to the proper vantage point, all while a gripped (and no doubt conflicted) National Park Service ranger sat in his passenger seat. To read the story behind "Last Light on Horsetail Fall" by Galen Rowell, click here! https://www.anseladams.com/horsetail-fall-by-galen-rowell/ *Due to the popularity of the Horsetail Fall event, restrictions are in effect starting today (through February 24th) from noon to 7 pm. Tuolumne Meadow Rangers weekly blog post is in! It's been a windy and mostly sunny week for them. Travels brought them to an old mine site where they muse on a bygone era. https://www.nps.gov/y/blogs/update-for-february-10-2021.htm

Yosemite: Winter Recreation Around Badger Pass Like everything in this world, winter recreation will look different in 2020-2021 around Badger Pass. - Wildern...ess access for trails and area along Glacier Point Road will open and self-registration for permits will occur outside the A-frame. - Access will open when sufficient snow has covered meadows sensitive to trampling. - Glacier Point Road will be regularly plowed to Badger Pass and the parking lot will be maintained for access. - The ski lodge and all concession facilities will be inaccessible this year. Limited snow play will be available. - Portable toilets will be available for restroom use. - There will be minimal maintenance of the Glacier Point Road beyond Badger Pass. Expect rugged conditions. Think snow! snow! snow!

We asked the park if their statement about day use limits meant that the special permit requirement from earlier this year was coming back, this is their answer: Hello. Reservations will not be required to enter Yosemite. The park will close at 5 pm each day, so please plan to exit before that time.

Yosemite National Park is working closely with officials from Mariposa County Public Health and the California Department of Public Health to determine how Cali...fornia's regional Stay At Home order may impact operations at Yosemite National Park. The park remains open at this time. All updates will be posted on the park's website (www.nps.gov/yose) and social media sites. Park managers will continue to examine each facility function and service provided to align with local conditions. The park works with the NPS Office of Public Health using CDC guidance to ensure public areas and workspaces are safe and clean for visitors, employees, partners, and volunteers. See more

Looks like the GPR project in Yosemite is being postponed by a year... have not seen press release but this is from a reliable site... The Glacier Point Road will now be closed summer of 2022 instead of 2021 Glacier Point Road will be closed to all traffic in 2022 to rehabilitate and improve the road. The only access to Glacier Point will be via the Four Mile, Panorama, and Pohono Trails, all of which are strenuous hikes. There will be 30-minute delays in 2023.
