Last year, while attending our AAML national meetings in Chicago, I received a call from my office, reporting that my hometown of Paradise, California, was under threat of fire and that my parents were evacuating. Initially, this was not shocking, as Paradise historically encounters fire drama. But November 8, 2018 was different, with the town basically nuked. My parents escaped through the fraught traffic jam, but then lost everything. read more here https://www.theherringlawgroup.com//the-paradise-camp-fire

Santa Barbara’s Casa Serena celebrated its 60th birthday with a beautiful luncheon in early October at the Rosewood at Miramar Beach in Montecito. Making the event even more special for HLG, Casa Serena there presented us with its Leadership in Excellence Award for 2019. Casa Serena’s mission is to help women and their families recover from addiction by providing evidence-based treatment services while building community, instilling self-determination, and empowering them ...with educational opportunities and financial literacy. Its professional staff includes Marriage and Family Therapists, Certified Addiction Treatment Counselors and Early Childhood Educators. At the core of its successes are two beautifully cared-for and welcoming properties, including Santa Barbara’s only treatment facility where mothers recovering from addiction can reunite and live with their children. Casa Serena has given thousands of women a firm foundation on which to begin their recoveries from addiction and abuse. It opened its doors to alcoholic women in August of 1959 primarily through the efforts of its founder, Mildred Pinheiro. Recovering from alcoholism herself, Mildred wanted to open the home because there was no place here for a woman alcoholic to go for help. Case Serena: Has the only non-denominational program of its kind in Santa Barbara. Offers the only residential treatment facility for women with children in Santa Barbara County. Is the oldest residential recovery program for women in Santa Barbara County. Provides a comprehensive licensed residential treatment program. Includes step-down treatment and lifetime aftercare as part of its holistic approach. HLG has for years proudly supported this important local organization as our signature non-profit. Our Executive Director, Erin Schaden, has generously donated hundreds of hours of her time to Casa Serena, and presently serves as the President of its Board of Directors. HLG continues as a solid donor. Presently, we are facilitating a potential grant through the AAML Foundation toward providing pro bono legal services to its residents. Casa Serena’s acknowledgement of HLG’s support and leadership is much appreciated. In reality, the organization has also given much to us, in broadening our own perspectives and providing paths for meaningful service. Please go to casaserena.org for more information and giving opportunities.

This year’s Donor of the Year, Herring Law Group, will be recognized at the event for their continued support of the Foundation’s mission to help provide scholarships for law students and promote gender equality in the legal profession. The event is open to everyone and tickets are available at https://sbwl.org/event-calendar/onward-upward/
CASA SERENA TREATMENT PROGRAMS FOR WOMEN RECEIVES JOINT COMMISSION ACCREDITATION AND MARKS 60TH ANNIVERSARY Casa Serena, the longest-serving, non-profit residential treatment program for women challenged by addiction and related mental health diagnoses, recently received accreditation by the Joint Commission (jointcommission.org). This accreditation provides patients, families, referral sources, and insurance companies with assurance that the highest standards of care and ou...tcomes are being achieved. "For a nonprofit treatment center that relies primarily on community and foundation support, receiving this national accreditation allows us to serve more women, children and families because we can now accept health insurance," says Casa Serena’s Executive Director, Lisette Fraser. Casa Serena is the only treatment facility and step-down addiction program in the Santa Barbara community that focuses exclusively on women and their families, including mothers facing the hard issues that their disease has brought upon their children. Some of the evidence-based treatment modalities offered at Casa Serena include: individual and family therapy, cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy, trauma and resiliency skill-building, along with social model principles such as a job readiness program, and gardening and cooking experience. Casa Serena’s published success rate is higher than the national average, a success it attributes to its depth of experience and its holistic and comprehensive approach to all aspects of addiction treatment, and this success rate was instrumental in it receiving accreditation. This year, Casa Serena celebrates sixty years in business. The organization has grown to two large homes serving up to 29 women at a time. Admissions to the Casa Serena facilities come from both within and outside the Santa Barbara community. Casa Serena will commemorate its 60th birthday at its annual educational and fund-raising event on October 4th, at the Rosewood Miramar Beach. For additional information contact: Lisette Fraser at [email protected] 805.444.8072.
Herring Law Group is honored to receive the Leadership for Excellence award from Casa Serena. HLG continues to strongly support Casa Serena, which has provided 60 years of substance abuse and treatment for women (and related support for their children) in Santa Barbara. Casa Serena’s mission is to help women and their families recover from addiction by providing evidence-based treatment services while building community, instilling self-determination, and empowering them with educational opportunities and financial literacy. HLG’s Executive Director, Erin Schaden, currently serves as the Chairwoman of its Board of Directors. We encourage you to visit their website to see the various programs and services, and to join HLG as a sponsor. https://casaserena.org/annual-luncheon/
