HERPETON 2020 April 30th-May 3rd A special presentation on some of the most intelligent and impressive of the colubrid snakes. Featured Speaker: JOHN MICHELS... Captive Husbandry of the Drymarchon genus. An Introduction to Breeding Indigos and Cribos. Considered by many to be the pinnacle of the colubrid world, indigo snakes and cribos are some of the most highly sought after snakes in herpetoculture. While the eastern indigo is the most recognizable and garners most of the attention from hobbyists, there are five other snakes within the Drymarchon genus that deserve attention. Whether they are enjoyed as pets or for captive propagation, indigos and cribos can be rewarding snakes given the proper husbandry and breeding techniques. John Michels was born and raised in the Los Angeles area where he still lives with his family. Although he had an interest in reptiles at a young age, he started keeping and breeding indigo snakes and cribos twenty years ago and Black Pearl Reptiles was born. A teacher by day, John enjoys spending his extra time with his family, field herping, and challenging himself to find more successful ways to keep and breed snakes from the Drymarchon genus. HERPETON 2020 April 30th-May 3rd 2030 Featured Speakers: Philippe de Vosjoli and Robert Mailloux WAXY MONKEY FROGS (Phyllomedusa sauvagii): An Overview of Car...e and Natural History Waxy monkey frogs are one of the most in demand and best display treefrogs available to hobbyists. Unfortunately, there is still a great deal of misinformation on their care and many do not survive the well-intentioned but inadequate conditions under which many are maintained. In general, this species is threatened in the hobby and only a concerted effort can help it from eventually disappearing from the trade. This talk, based on the work of Robert Mailloux of Sandfire Dragon Ranch who has kept and bred this species for nearly two decades, will present an overview of natural history and address the many factors for the successful maintenance of this fascinating species. Don;t Miss this Cutting Edge Talk at Herpeton 2020! April 30- May 3rd San Diego CA Register now at www.herpeton.org... Featured Speaker: Philippe de Vosjoli IRANIAN GIANT LEOPARD GECKOS Iranian giant leopard geckos (Eublepharis angramainyu) are the largest terrestrial gecko kept by herpetoculturists and the second largest terrestrial gecko after Eublepharis fuscus, the giant Indian species (not the subspecies/species currently sold as fuscus in the hobby). For hobbyists in the know, Eublepharis angramainyu is one of the great geckos, rewarding as displays and potential pets with behaviors significantly different than that of the common leopard gecko. These large geckos that can reach or slightly exceed twelve inches are still poorly represented in the hobby. Although having a general resemblance to the common leopard gecko, they differ significantly in their life history, taking 2-3 years to reach sexual maturity and up to five years to achieve their mature size. They also have a short breeding season with typically three clutches of eggs laid annually. In terms of generation time and labor to produce, they are comparable to New Caledonian giant geckos (Rhacodactylus leachianus). They do display a range of variation in color, pattern and size, which presents great opportunities for selective breeding. A brief overview of other species of Eublepharis will also be presented to make more people aware of the other alternatives to common leopard gecko.

Don’t Miss this Cutting Edge Talk At HERPETON 2020! Featured Speaker: Phillip Lietz UROMASTYX: Misconceptions, Insights, and Their Place in US Herpetoculture.... Uromastyx are a diverse group of herbivorous desert lizards distributed from North Africa to the Middle East. Although available in the trade for decades, these unique lizards have long been under-represented and under-served in U.S. herpetoculture. Their proper care continues to stump beginning keepers and breeders due to a range of misinformation and insufficient concerted efforts for captive reproduction. As a result, many species are not yet firmly established and could disappear from the hobby when imports stop. This talk will provide new insights on the husbandry and captive propagation of several species from the largest breeder in the U.S. PHILLIP LIETZ lives in Denver, Colorado and has been working with reptiles since his childhood. He saw his first Uromastyx at a pet shop when in grade school but didn't manage to acquire one until late high school. Since then, Phillip has developed an addiction to these beautiful and misunderstood desert lizards. Their specific needs in captive care, striking physical appearance, and inconsistent availability have led him to collect members of every species available in the U.S. pet trade. He has had continued success in breeding nearly all of them. REGISTER TODAY! www.herpeton.org There is limited room availability at the special Herpeton rate at the Marriott Courtyard where the event will be held. Mention that you are attending Herpeton when you register.

More Great Talks Scheduled for Herpeton 2020 Featured Speaker: Myke Clarkson Acro Care: Keeping the Banded File Snake (Acrochordus granulatus) with Notes on Nat...ural History and Fungal Issues. A brief summary of the ecology of A. granulatus, with direct care application using a brackish system set up, as well as notes on the treatment of common fungal issues in the family. For those in the know, banded file snakes (Acrochordus granulatus) are one of the supreme display snakes along with a handful of other aquatic species that can be kept in aquariums. The problem is that misinformation has led to poor success with hobbyists eventually giving up on the species. With this talk, you will be able to meet the challenge and keep, and hopefully breed, what is sure to be a conversation piece and unique display in your home. MYKE CLARKSON is the Owner/Operator of Pelamis Productions, Owner/Operator of Kavu Properties CR, Vice President of Best Production Company, Host and Producer of Zilla’s Beyond The Glass video series and Co-founder and current President of HCI: Herpetological Conservation International. Myke's most recent television creation was Dead By Dawn for Nat Geo Wild, with many similar animal conservation blue-chip programs currently in development with Disney+, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild and Discovery Channel. Despite a fairly full plate professionally, Myke still pursues his lifelong passions of field herping around the world, reptile photography, and reptile keeping. In addition to breeding various odd colubrids, Myke has been working with Homalopsidae and Acrochordidae with for the past 17 years. He also keeps freshwater and coral reef tanks, which come in handy with his specialty in keeping is aquatic snakes. Register now at www.herpeton.org

Dwarf diurnal geckos are among the most colorful of New World lizards. They are also diurnal and can be kept and bred in small enclosures making them rewarding vivarium captives. In European and other collections, several species have been successfully maintained with various species of dart frogs. James Lindros is a South Florida native who has been keeping small reptiles, amphibians, fish and many different kinds of plants since he was a kid. His herping experiences in the Florida Keys lead to his current focus on captive breeding Sphaerodactylus, Gonatodes, and other dwarf geckos for the hobby.
