New Camaldoli Hermitage 09.11.2020

Dear Friends, The Hermitage recently conducted a Zoom conference on climate change and as part of that we created a short video on the challenges faced by the Hermitage from fire and pandemic (as much of you have also faced). As a side note: the monks are able to support and keep open this beautiful place through not only welcoming guests here, but through kind donations given by many. Since we have been trying to recover financially from the damage caused by the 2017 storms... (including a new entrance road that has cost upwards of $1.5 million) and the forced pandemic and fire closures, those gifts are now more important than ever. You can visit the donation page of our website to find out how you can offer support to help us cover the operational and lost income costs incurred from the above noted disasters. We are here, praying for all of you constantly and offering this place as a perfect refuge during this time of chaos and social distancing. Our calendar has a few openings for rooms at the end of November (December is much more booked) and also January has plenty of availability right now. Think ahead and book your stay accordingly. Peace be with you. Donation gifts: https://www.contemplation.com/support-the-hermitage/ To book a stay: https://www.contemplation.com/reservations/

All of us human beings are in the image of God, but to be in God’s likeness belongs only to those who by great love have attached their freedom to God. (Diadochus of Photike)

The whole Christian life is a continual dying to ourselves, to the ego, and identifying with our real self which is hidden with Christ in God. (Bede Griffiths)

One of the things we must cast out first of all is fear. Fear narrows the little entrance of our heart. It shrinks up our capacity to love. It freezes up our power to give ourselves. (Thomas Merton)

Spiritually speaking, what is the foundation of the life of the spirit? It is love. Love is the origin of everything, and love is the deepest ground of the life of the spirit. (Soren Kierkegaard)

The newest painting from our Fr. Arthur Poulin is called A Prayer For The Earth In This Time Of Pandemic. It’s a small painting and the original will sell for around $1500, IF he decides to sell. At this point he’s not ready to part with it.
