Hello everyone, we hope all of you are well and healthy during these times! We wanted to let everyone know that temporarily we have shortened our office hours due to being short staffed right now, we currently have some staff members out for family matters and some home sick. In order to keep everyone, including our clients safe and healthy, we ask all staff that aren't feeling well to stay home until cleared to come back to work. Due to our limited staff available to work ri...ght now, wait times and availability for appointments may take longer than normal, and we apologize for that. We are grateful to have such a dedicated and hard working staff that is doing their best with our limited hands right now. Due to the short staffing we have temporarily made our office hours Monday-Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm. We still will close for lunch daily 12:30-1:30. We will also be closed this coming Saturday, December 5. If your pet has a scheduled appointment for Saturday we will be calling those scheduled, to reschedule to another day. We appreciate everyone's patience, and ask for it to please continue as we are trying our very best to accomodate you and your pet's needs right now, with very few hands. We will notify everyone when our office hours return to normal, but for the time being, please make note of the new hours to ensure your pet gets any medication needs or requests filled as soon as possible! ~Heritage Team

We hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Please keep in mind during the holidays, while it may be tempting to share some of the delicious food with your pets, some Thanksgiving food can be dangerous or harmful if given to them! We’ve put together a list of some Thanksgiving food you should never give your petand included a few that you CAN offer, as a healthy fun snack! Do NOT feed your pet: Turkey skin, fat or dark meat! ... Cooked bonesthese can splinter and cause choking or damage to your pet’s digestive system! Turkey gravy these usually contain a large amount of fat which is not healthy for your pet. This can cause GI upset! Mashed Potatoes..these are usually loaded with fat and salt. Some also contain garlic, onions, scallions, chives etc which are toxic to dogs and cats! Stuffingthis also contains toxic ingredients (onions, scallions etc). Plus it’s likely fatty with butter added, which is not good for your pet! Cranberry saucethis is high in sugar. Some recipes may contain raisins or grapes which are HIGHLY toxic to pets, so steer clear! Homemade rollsusually has butter or seasoningwhich can cause GI upset! Candied Sweet Potatoes/Yams..too much butter and sugar! Pumpkin pie, Apple pie, Pecan Pietoo much sugar and seasoning! If you want to give them a treat from one of these homemade pies, toss fido a plain apple slice or a small dollop of PLAIN pureed pumpkin (not the pie mix, only pure pumpkin)they won’t even notice the crust is missing from their snack! Ok, ok.here are some Thanksgiving snacks they can try! Green Beansbut JUST the green beans! They can’t have the cream of mushroom soup or cheese or onions like we do in the casserole, but they can have a few plain green beans as a healthy snack! Cornnot the cob, but corn kernels WITHOUT butter or salt added can be a fun treat. Just don’t give them the cob, as this could cause a choking hazard or possibly cause an obstruction if swallowed! Cooked Turkey breast meat without seasoning or butter (please give turkey meat in moderation)no skin, fat, bones or gravy though! These are just a few suggestions, please use caution when giving your pet any human food. If you are unsure if your pet can have a specific human food, please consult with a Veterinarian before feeding it to them! Some pets have sensitive stomachs or food allergiesso when in doubt, best to play it safe and offer them one of their own snacks! Happy Holidays and warm wishes to you and your loved ones, from Heritage!

One more note for today.. Obviously this fire stuff adds a whole new level of stress and hardship to everyone’s life. We are still open and seeing scheduled appointments, but we are a bit short staffed due to evacuations and employees needing to leave the area. We would like to thank those that are showing our staff some extra patience during this time, now adding fire stress to the pandemic stress and trying to remain open and serving the public. We are trying our best to keep appointments quick and easy, but do ask for a little patience on that during this time.

If you have a pet PLEASE make sure they are microchipped and that the contact info is up to date. If you are not sure if your pet is microchipped, or if you would like to get them microchipped just give us a call. We can place a microchip and register it for you. Every year we get calls and emails about dozens of animals that ran off during the fire season, keep your baby safe and if they do happen to run off, make sure they’re chipped in case someone finds them!

We hope everyone is safe and keeping a close eye on the fire movement. This has become such a stressful and scary time of year for all of us, and just wanted to give our beloved clients some reminders... There is a lot of ash falling. If you HAVE to walk your dog, wipe off their face, paws, chest & underbelly with a damp cloth once you get back home. Don't let them lick it off. It's toxic. But ideally, you and your animals should be inside when possible. Wear an n95 mask... outside or any mask you have available, the air quality is not good right now and hazardous in some areas. Check purpleair.com for your specific area. Make sure you have gas in your car and a bag packed in case you need to leave quickly. Fire can be unpredictable and it’s better to be prepared and just leave, than to scramble at the last minute and possibly forget something valuable. If you’re told to LEAVE NOW, please don’t hesitate and do leave. Not only does it put you in danger by staying against orders, but the first responders not only have to risk their own lives to come rescue people that didn’t leave when they were told to, but it also takes the valuable first responder time to do that extra step. Keep informed! This fire has no containment and we have more wind and heat coming, it’s best not to panic and to just be informed and aware! And of course be ready. We look forward to a calmer time when we have clean air, but until then, please stay safe everyone!

We hope everyone is staying cool in this excessive heat! Please remember to hydrate yourself, and be sure that your fur babies have access to plenty of fresh, cool water. Keep them indoors if possible, or at the very least ensure they have a cool shady spot to try and stay cool in. If you’re going to take your dog for walk, wait until it’s cooler outside. If you cannot hold the back of your hand on the cement for more than a few seconds, it’s much too hot for the bottom paw pads of your fur baby! Lastly, ensure the air quality is healthy enough to be out in..we are all going through these tough times, so just some friendly reminders for our beloved clients and patients to stay safe and healthy Check Www.Purpleair.com to see air quality in your area

Everyone say hi to sweet little Bea! She came in for her first vet visit recently and was so brave for her first vaccines! We can’t wait to go watch her grow up!

Heritage Veterinary Hospital 23.06.2020

Frankie has been helping out more at reception lately (probably because of the AC, or the constant attention and love he gets from his girls up there). He has a nice bed with blankets set up to lay on up at the desk, but he would rather be in his box..cats are so funny!
