My garden is full of aromatic abundance and I want to share it with you at this upcoming class on Friday, September 20 from 6:30 - 8pm where we will make Botanical Smoke Bundles together. I don't know about you, but this is my idea of a fun Friday night. Sip on a refreshing & relaxing herbal mocktail while handcrafting with aromatic herbs. I will guide you while you create your own beautiful smoke bundles made with local and sustainably harvested ar...omatic plants. You will learn about the properties of many aromatic herbs, sustainable cultivation & foraging, appropriate cultural practices, and a history of burning aromatic herbs for cleansing yourself, your home, etc. These are commonly known as "smudge sticks" for "smudging" which is an Indigenous American practice and not my tradition. I am of European decent and will be teaching about that practice of burning herbs for smoke cleansing. I bought this lions mane mushroom at the farmers market! Lions mane is pure gold for nourishing the Brain and neuropathways. Coupled with Neuroplasticity work (and micrososing) it’s magic! We chopped it up and mixed it with local, grass fed ground lamb and topped it with pickled onions, turmeric & ginger using the quick vinegar pickup method from @sophia_roe (thanks!). Some lettuce from the garden and a few feta stuffed cherry bomb peppers on the side and it was a damn good anniversary dinner. 8 years hitched to this guy. This is a gentle reminder to take in the good. Soothing smells, tastes, visuals, touch and sounds are incredibly nourishing. Smell, in particular, bypasses our higher brain centers and enters into our ancient lizard brain called the limbic system, rapidly stirring up memories and emotions. Like many people who are lucky enough to remain employed right now, I’ve been mostly working from home. I’m so damn grateful to have a home office and lab to work in! Today it smells like flowers and propolis. I’m endlessly grateful that I get to work with plants and support fellow plant people get their products to the market in the most sustainable ways I possibly can from sourcing ethical ingredients to formulating to writing technical documents. Computer work isn’t the mo...st fun part of my job, but the behind the scenes procedures and documents are what keep herbal (including cannabis) products safe and legal and I’m psyched that I get to work with the wonderful people @thegalleysantarosa . Today on my lunch break I went outside to help two fellow beekeepers capture a swarm in my neighbors yard. As we prepared the bees swarmed again! I walked a full block with them swarming and buzzing over my head (an experience that touches my heart so deeply that my eyes well up every damn time!). Eventually, they simply went inside a box in the backyard of the most experienced beekeeper on the block Wise bees! #beekeeping #swarm #sonomacountybees #sonomacounty #santarosa
