When you’ve been up half the night with a cardiac emergency you and have a full schedule of patients dress to impress in @badgleymischka and heels and chug plenty of @starbucks #cardiologist #badgleymischka #starbucks #coffee #energized #caffeine #womenincardiology

Welder chic - the new rage in covid fashion. Be safe!

Dr Heather J. Shenkman, MD 05.01.2021

Oww oww owww! Today I received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine. It hurt about as much as a flu shot. Now about four hours later my arm is pretty shore, more than after a flu shot. Otherwise I’m fine. ... I’ve been rounding in the hospitals this week. The COVID numbers have risen astronomically. ICUs are full. Telemetry floors are full. The ERs are full and backed up with patients waiting for hospital rooms. Elective procedures are being cancelled because there’s no room for additional patients in the hospital. Please, take this pandemic seriously. Things are getting out of control. Today I am more hopeful. Now that we have a vaccine, and with the Moderna version approved, we can get folks vaccinated and find an end to this pandemic. #covid #vaccine #covid_19 #covidvacccine #cardiologist #pandemic #sarscov2

Hope your are having a relaxing weekend. If that means you’re chilling on the couch eating pickles and watching cartoons while holding tour Minnie Mouse doll, so be it.

Happy Hanukkah! I found a great potato latke recipe from @vegnews which we ate with applesauce, a @wholefoods vegan roast, and mushrooms and cauliflower sautéed in olive oil. This is Ava’s plate. She had about 3 servings of applesauce, all of the mushrooms and a few bites of everything else. ... #hanukkah #veganhanukkah #jewishvegan #toddlerfood #vegan

Toddler breakfast - Cheerios, raisins, and a Just Egg plant-based egg substitute. I sauté whatever chopped vegetables I have in the refrigerator in oil, spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes, then add Just Egg to the pan, let it cook for about 2 minutes, and then scramble. #justegg #justeggvegan #breakfast #toddlerfood #vegan #vegantoddler #vegantoddlerapproved #raisins #cheerios

Someone wanted to come with me and Ozzie but didn’t want to get in her stroller. This is my workout after my Barry’s workout - walking the and carrying a toddler.

What a difference a three years makes!! Back in April 2017, I sat in this garden outside my hospital hiding out to have a conversation with Larry Kinzler, an MGMA consultant. I had a crazy idea that I wanted to share with someone objectively, and maybe be talked out of it. I told him that I was thinking about leaving my group practice where I had been for over 8 years and opening my own solo practice. I had what I thought was a loyal patient base, a reputation as a good card...iologist with an interest in plant-based nutrition, and privileges at several local hospitals. To my surprise, he told me I had a great idea, and that he thought I could thrive as an independent doctor. Here I am, three years later, in spite of a global pandemic, with a thriving solo practice, and happier practicing medicine than ever.

I’ve heard too many stories of gaining weight and not exercising during the pandemic. Not me I’m finally able to exercise consistently. @thecoachcorey of @arcfitnessburbank has live Zoom workouts at 7 and 8 am and 6 pm. It’s the best of both worlds - a coach-led fun and tough workout, complete with feedback on form, without having to leave home. ... Sign up with @arcfitnessburbank , the link is in the bio. It’s $28 for the first 28 days, I think. It’s an incredible deal. #fitmom #veganfitness #plantpowered #fitcardiologist #hearthealth #postpartumbody #ninemonthspostpartum @ Sherman Oaks, California

You might wonder why I would post a picture of my Ava for the #dryamisaladchallenge. She’s 9 months old and a great eater. I’m not gonna give her a big salad, of course, but she will eat many of the items in my salad, in appropriate sizes of course. Here, she is eating steamed carrot slices, avocado, and tempha (a brown rice and black bean protein source) #babyledweaning #ninemonthsold #carrots #daveskorean #avocado #healthybaby #healthybabyfood

Post PPE selfie. Not an attractive picture. COVID is out there. And people are afraid to go to the hospital, including those who should. I’m seeing people with heart attacks who are coming to the ER days too late, and ending up very sick or worse. If you’re healthy stay home. If you’re sick, don’t delay your care. #covid #stayhome #cardiologist #womenincardiology #covid19

What can you do to help us fight coronavirus? First and foremost, STAY HOME. If you have N95 masks, please don’t wear them as your own protective gear. You don’t need it. A simple mask will do. We could use them. Many of my physician and healthcare colleagues don’t have the protective equipment at their hospitals. You don’t need an N95 to go to Trader Joe’s. But I do when I go in the room of a patient with coronavirus.
