...our Little One... I think so often of how we will describe this past year to you. How we will put into words the emotions, heartbreak, and actions of the months you’ve spent silently forming, tucked away in safety... Honestly, I’m not sure. It feels like a big task to put this year into words and to imagine educating you about it all one day. I’ve tried to protect my energy and yours from a lot of it, since we needed to focus on you being healthy and strong. However, ...it would be a lie to say my heart didn’t break multiple times this year... As will yours throughout your life. So strange to think there will be a time where I cannot protect you as I’ve done these past nine months, but... A broken heart will never be something I can prevent for you once you emerge, nor should I. Heartbreak makes and shapes us. It teaches empathy, compassion, and shows us how big our capacity to love really is... My forever hope for you, Little One, is that your heart grows in beautiful and unexpected ways. That it breaks for injustice, and that it grieves for all that is broken, so you will actively want to be part of a solution. While I wish I could guard you from unpleasantness, I know that’s foolish. I hope you love so big that when you experience loss, it guts you... Because, deep grief cannot exist without massive love... As your Nana says: Love is what it’s all about. It’s what makes our limited time here so very worth it. While I cannot promise you a life without sadness, I can promise you’ll grow surrounded by love, empathy, and compassion. I promise you will find comfort, so that you in turn will know how to comfort... I promise you’ll be encouraged in your curiosity, so you’ll never shy away from asking hard questions to find the solutions... I promise you’ll have other trusted, rad, and knowledgeable adults to turn to, for when you’re wanting new perspective (apart from that of your weirdo parents)... I gotta tell yaGetting to work with a fellow photographer is always such a rad honor... Especially when it also includes a connection like theirs!... But. If I’m perfectly honestI do always get anxious when shooting another photographer! Anyone else do this??? I get so in-my-head and worry they will find my methods insane, my posing weird, and my vibe chaotic! But... Then I remember I can’t really change anything about who I am or how I shoot, and I don’t need to, so I try and let it go and just have fun!!! And. This session was pure joy!
