Most hospices offer the same basic services, so how do you differentiate between them to choose what’s best for your needs?

Caring for a loved one is one of the most significant challenges life can present. We're here for the families and friends of our patients, too. Whether it’s to have a safe space to share feelings or to remember the memory of loved ones. Heartland Hospice serving Raleigh-Durham was faced with challenges this year when it came to planning their annual memorial service. However, instead of the typical in-person service that is held each year, the team was able to plan several events that ensured the participants would stay safe. Kristin Lassiter, bereavement coordinator, tells about the drive-thru events:
Gordon Creamer, Heartland Hospice volunteer coordinator and chairperson for Heartland’s We Honor Veterans Committees in Maryland, details the importance of not only recognizing veterans, but also taking time to listen to their stories and truly understanding what their service means to each of them.

Pet interaction also helps produce a calming feeling, which can alleviate pain and reduce stress. Heartland Hospice serving Central Wisconsin has been utilizing pet volunteers since October 2012 when the agency first began caring for hospice patients.
