First day of school today! We got this!

Yesterday I sat in my car and cried. Big ugly crocodile tears. I cried for all the things that my kids won’t get to do this year. No first day back hugging friends and running hand-in-hand out to the playground. No preschool graduation performance. No school spirit days and matching outfits with friends. I cried for a world that has gone upside down. I cried for the fact that when my kids see friends or family they first ask me if it’s ok to hug them. I cried for myself, for ...dreams and career choices that have been sidelined because now My job is to be a full time teacher. I cried....but then I stopped. I wiped it all away because there is no changing all of it; because this year we will make new memories. We will find a new normal...and we will still have school spirit days...and even though our playground will be the backyard we will still have friends around. I stopped because we are together and healthy and I am incredibly grateful for that. I stopped because we have every opportunity still before us...we just have to work to make it all fun and bright, and I’ve never been scared of work.
