Pet Names I recently heard a mother call her child Monkey Butt. I was floored and amazed. If you think pet names are just cute and don’t have an effect, you’d be dead wrong. The names you choose for your spouse and loved ones can have a devastating and long lasting effect on them. ... A pet name that has a bad connotation can lead to lasting contempt in a marriage. Contempt is a major influence on whether your relationship will stand the test of time. Here is a good rule of thumb from the Bible: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things. Philippians 4:8 Not only should you think on these things, but your words should reflect your thoughts. If you use pet names, do they meet the standard: Is it true? Is it noble? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it admirable? Is it excellent? Is it praiseworthy? My next article will be about giving your partner the benefit of the doubt. The above guidelines are a great starting point.
