The names you choose for your spouse and loved ones can have a devastating and long lasting effect on them. ... A pet name that has a bad connotation can lead to lasting contempt in a marriage. Contempt is a major influence on whether your relationship will stand the test of time. Here is a good rule of thumb from the Bible: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things. Philippians 4:8 Not only should you think on these things, but your words should reflect your thoughts. If you use pet names, do they meet the standard: Is it true? Is it noble? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it admirable? Is it excellent? Is it praiseworthy? My next article will be about giving your partner the benefit of the doubt. The above guidelines are a great starting point.
