When an Alzheimer's hospice patient was no longer able to communicate verbally, she turned to music to express herself. She uttered the words, "Amor Eterno," often when looking at her daughter. The non-verbal patient, Ana, was trying to tell her daughter, Rosa, something special. The song, 'Amor Eterno' is recognized as an anthem for anyone who's lost someone close to them. "Tú eres la tristeza de mis ojos/ Que lloran en silencio por tu amor," are the first two lines of th...e song. They translate to "You are the sadness in my eyes/ that cry in silence for your love." Music Therapy is incredibly important for hospice patients. Not only does it provide comfort and engagement, but it can also be used as a bridge for communication. Rosa often recalls when her mother used to speak. Music plays an immense role in their daily lives. ... "The song became a way for them to connect. Music touches the heart of patients and families to allow them to interact, even though they may not be able to with words.
