On September 30th, Huntington Beach was experiencing a building south swell with wave heights reaching more than 6 feet. Lifeguard II Emily Seth was on duty at... Tower 15 when she saw a swimmer in need of assistance in front of tower 19. As Emily arrived, she observed a swimmer holding a baby above the water and was struggling to stay afloat. She immediately swam out to rescue them and Emily was handed the baby. Emily then proceeded to swim both the adult and baby to shore. Once on shore both were assessed by Huntington Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Personnel and Firefighter Paramedics. It is a reminder to be very careful while on the beach especially with kids. If you ever feel uncomfortable in the water make sure to stay close to shore and always speak to a lifeguard about the safest place to enter the water. Great job Emily! #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD

Attention beach goers! It's going to be a warm day today with 75 degree water and a south swell bringing 2 - 4ft waves. Please remember to stay within your ability. Please feel free to check in with lifeguards if you are unsure about the conditions and the safest areas for you and your family. Rip current activity will be very high - make sure you stay within you swimming ability limits when recreating in the water. If your swimming ability is limited, stay where you can ...touch the ocean bottom at all times. For the parents, please keep a close eye on your kiddos and make sure they know the number of the nearest lifeguard tower. The south swell is causing a lateral current that will pull water users from south to north. Have a great day at our beaches, please remember to social distance, hydrate, and wear plenty of sunscreen. #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD #marinesafety #swimnearalifeguard #rescue

Effective today, the City of Huntington Beach will be reopening our beaches and beach bike pathway for active recreation only. The decision to reopen the beaches in Surf City was made after extensive discussions with other local area cities and State representatives, including those at the California Natural Resources Agency and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Of note, the State beaches (Huntington State Beach and Bolsa Chica State Beach) will also be reop...ening today with active recreation protocols consistent with those being implemented by the City. Under the new active recreation regulations, the following protocols will be enforced at local beaches: - Beaches will be open every day from 5 a.m. 10 p.m. - Only active recreation activities will allowed at the beaches -Physical social distancing requirements are required -Beaches (excluding those in Huntington Harbor) and beach pathways will be open -Walking, running, hiking, bicycle riding, etc. (where normally allowed) will be facilitated -Ocean will be open to swimming, surfing, bodysurfing, boogie boarding, kite surfing, paddle boarding, skim boarding, kayaking, and other similar ocean activities. -Fishing will be allowed from the beach and other ocean access locations, in those places where fishing activities are normally allowed, so long as social distancing requirements are abided by. -Within Huntington Harbor and all connected channels, active recreation such as kayaking, boating, and paddle boarding will be allowed. Repost @huntington_beach_police We understand this has been a difficult time for everyone, and public safety has, and will continue to be, the number one priority for the City of Huntington Beach. Given that all Orange County beaches are closing, the City made the decision to close our beaches as well. Please see the City's press release for specifics. . This is a temporary closure, hopefully of a short duration, and our goal in the enforcement of the closure will be to rely... on education and voluntary compliance. If voluntary compliance cannot be achieved, enforcement action will be taken if necessary. . For anyone who lives, works or visits Huntington Beach, please know we are working together with our state and local government to get our City back open as quickly as possible, and we ask that you adhere to the latest order. #huntingtonbeach #onehb #hbready #hbpd #hbfd #hblg #hblifeguards #staysafe #huntingtonbeach #surfcity See more
