Today the roll was called and Brother Philip Mountbatten was missing. He was initiated into Navy Lodge #2612 on December 5, 1952. He has laid down his working tools. May he be admitted to the Celestial Lodge above. Rest In Peace Brother.

Some good information from our MERT team: MERT ALERT TSUNAMI MERTALERT... 10/15/2020 BE PREPARED FOR OUR SURF CITY BECOMING TSUNAMI CITY The three most probable natural disasters in Southern California are Wildfire, Earthquake and Tsunami. Let’s review how to respond to the latter given our Little Lodge by the Sea is in Surf City. A major tsunami is defined as a wall of water, anywhere from 5 to 20 feet high, traveling at about 50 or 60 mph. In a large-scale tsunami the wall of water keeps coming ashore for several minutes. Whew. There have been no Tsunamis recorded in HB for at least the last 80 years. Newport Beach did have a 5-foot tidal surge stemming from an 8.2 earthquake in Alaska in 1964. Scientists agree Tsunami is a low -probability, high-consequence event for which HB should be prepared given many parts of HB are below 15 feet in elevation. PRE-TSUNAMI PREPAREDNESS: 1. KEEP AN EAR OPEN FOR THE TSUNAMI SIRENS - The City of HB operates a Tsunami early warning siren system. If you hear the Tsunami Sirens (and it’s not the 1st Friday of the month at 12 noon when the City test the sirens monthly), follow the direction of public safety officials and prepare to evacuate inland or to higher ground. With current technology if the Tsunami originates in the mid-Pacific Ocean, we could have up to several hours of warning. 2. IF YOU ARE NEAR THE BEACH AND FEEL AN EARTHQUAKE THAT LASTS MORE THAN 20 SECONDS- Immediately move inland or to high ground. 3. AS ALWAYS, HAVE YOUR GO BAG READY TO GO in case you need to evacuate quickly. TSUNAMI EVACUATION PLAN AND ROUTES FOR HB: Tuck the following abbreviated Tsunami Evac Plan in the back of your mind for your home or work locations in HB (working from East to West): 1. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN THE SANTA ANA RIVER AND BEACH BLVD- GET NORTH OF INDIANAPOLIS AVE. a. If on foot, your designated Safe Areas are Drew Park, Hawes Park and Moffett Park. 2. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN BEACH BLVD AND GOLDENWEST ST- GET NORTH OF PALM AVE AND PREFERABLY ELLIS AVE. a. If on foot, your designated Safe Area is Lake Park 3. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN GOLDENWEST AVE AND BOLSA CHICA ROAD- GET NORTH OF WARNER AVE. a. If on foot, your designated Safe Areas are Huntington Central Park (at end of Central Park Dr), Golden View Park, Gibbs Park and Carr Park. 4. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN BOLSA CHICA ROAD AND PCH- GET INLAND TO BOLSA CHICA ROAD AND NORTH OF WARNER AVE. a. If on foot, your designated Safe Areas are Haven View Park and Weider Park. EVACUATION ROUTES FOR HB: DO- DRIVE NORTH ON ANY MAJOR STREET EXCEPT GOLDENWEST ST AND GRAHAM ST. If needed, Buses will be running North on Brookhurst, Magnolia, Beach, Main, Goldenwest and Warner. AVOID- Driving North on Goldenwest St. It is designated as an Inbound Route for First Responders. For more information during a Tsunami- Tune your radio to 107.9 KWVE, connect to www.ReadyOC.com, or connect to www.huntingtonbeachca.gov/preparehb.

A message from Worshipful Kenneth Stanford: Stated Meeting Historical Minutes! We are having a little fun reading minutes from the past...getting a sense of the history of our lodge. Last month our Secretary, Worshipful Glen West, read the minutes from the meeting of 50 years ago to the day. One particularly interesting aspect of the reading of those minutes was the mention of Worshipful Chuck Grossman...still active in the lodge to his very day! Join us this Wednesday evening and find out what golden nugget of lodge history Worshipful West has dug up to share with us this month!
