Foam Roller Exercises There are so many exercises you can do using a foam roller. Read below for a few examples. 1. Thoracic Spine Extension: bring the foam roller horizontal and lay on top of it. Put your hands behind your head to support your neck and allow yourself to extend backwards off of the foam roller.... 2. Pec Stretch: bring the foam roller vertical and lay on top of it. Bring your arms directly out in front of you and then bring them to the sides, as if making a T with your body. You should feel a stretch in the front of your shoulders. 3. Upper Extremity Scissors: bring the foam roller vertical and lie on top of it. Bring one arm up and the other one down. Then switch directions. #physicaltherapy #pt #pta #physicaltherapist #spt #ot #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #physiotherapist #physiotherapy #foamroller #thoracicmobility #pecstretch #wellness #stretch #strength #foamrolling #thoracicspine #shoulderworkout #shouldermobility

Prone T’s and Y’s This exercise can be performed face down on a table/bed or on an exercise ball for greater challenge. Try adding weights to make it even harder! This exercise addresses the middle and lower trapezius muscles and scapular muscle weakness. It helps you to activate the posterior chain (including the lumbar extensors).... This is especially important if you have poor posture or pain in your neck, shoulder, upper back, or mid back. Your middle and lower trapezius can help to improve upright posture, optimize scapular motor patterns, and decrease pain. Tips: make sure you do not hike your shoulders while doing this exercise. You should feel the muscles in between your shoulder blades working. #physicaltherapy #pt #physicaltherapist #dpt #pta #spt #apta #improvethewayyoumove #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #occupationaltherapy #ot #occupationaltherapist #wellness #strength #back #backpain #neckpain #shoulderexercise #shoulderpain #posturecorrection #posture #midtrap #lowtrap #posteriorchain #swissball #mobility #motorcontrol #scapularstability See more

Make sure to get evaluated by your physical therapist to ensure these exercises are appropriate for your specific injury, presentation, and goals. 1. Wall Slide with Foam Roller Here is an exercise you can perform to improve your overhead mobility and serratus anterior strength. Done correctly, this exercise will help to improve the mobility of your shoulder and scapula (shoulder blade). With a strong serratus anterior, there will be more balance in your shoulder and less strain to your rotator cuff. You can perform this exercise with or without a foam roller! If you don’t have one, just try to slide your arms up a smooth... wall. Tip: keep your arms parallel to each other while sliding up the wall and keep your head facing forward. #overheadmobility #serratusanterior #serratus #scapula #hep #homeexercise #shoulder #strength #physicaltherapy #wellness #pt #dpt.
