Hair Painted With Love

So happy I am now vaccinated!!! Wow what a year this has been. Last March 14th 2020 we were shut down, told it would be for two weeks which turned into 9 months of salon closures. Only to be open for 2 months and shut down again for an additional 2 months. I learned a lot this past year about government and social issues that I had kind of been blind too as I was just living my life. I even planned a protest which I never thought would be an interest of mine. I learned how t...o be resilient within my business and industry which I am so proud of. I have always been resilient in my life as I have experienced a lot throughout with my bipolar disorder but this situation was completely different for me. I have worked since I was 16 so losing my purpose was really difficult. Throwing myself into my job was a way to cope with my anxiety and depression so when covid happened I had no idea what to do with myself. I am really happy I had gotten help in the past and did an outpatient program the previous year so had resources such as therapists and psychiatrists. I don’t think I would have been able to function otherwise as the world just continually fell apart. So many people have died unnecessarily due to covid, we could have done so much better as a country from the beginning. However I am so proud of the scientists who so quickly developed these vaccines, the medical field workers who have worked their asses off through all this tragedy and stress. I am grateful I didn’t lose anyone close to me, and all my family can be reunited again. Lastly I am grateful for all of you! Thank you for supporting me during this rough year where I wasn’t able to work at the salon. This year has definitely shown me the importance of community and that we cannot do anything alone. We do need each other. Humans aren’t meant to be alone. I cannot wait til we can take off these masks and can see all your smiling faces! Especially when I do your hair I hope you can look back on this year and see your strength and perseverance. What has covid taught you about yourself or life? Do you ever watch shows and freak out because the people aren’t wearing masks? I have become so used to the masks, I don’t even notice I’m wearing them anymore also saying you can’t breathe in them is the biggest cop out cause I work all day with them as many other people do. I was just thinking about when I started my creative color journey in 2014 and for four months straight I stayed home and worked on dollheads all day. I had quit the commission salon I was at ( I was two years out of school) and was really about to give up on hair. But I found a lot of joy in painting colors and formulating, and looking at hair as just another art medium. In that time I built my Instagram and no one knew they were just dollheads and I really had no clients a...t the time. Now here I am shut down by the government and not able to work on humans, so I have reverted back to painting on dolls. Except this time I had to think how to profit off my art since we have barely received any government help. 9 months being shut down and I have found a new love for painting wigs.
