The handsome black 1971 Corvette is a 454 big block 4 speed air car with the saddle leather interior. The car was in over all good shape when it arrived at Guldstrand Performance, but the headlight doors and wiper door were inoperative. Inspection revealed that the original vacuum hoses that routed vacuum to the controllers and actuators that opened and closed the headlight doors and wiper arm door had cracked and dry rotted with age. Some hoses had split ends and had fallen ...off the nipples on the vacuum reservoir housings. The actuator for the wiper door was broken. A quick call to Dr Rebuild resulted in the exact color coded factory hose kit along with new actuators, and rebuild kits for the reservoir diaphragms arriving about a week later. These kits are also made by other firms but the product is not as close a match on the tubing thickness, diameter, or color coding as the Dr Rebuild kits. (See previous article on this subject) Several tedious and painstaking hours later Phil Roche, the resident C-3 guru had everything installed and operable again.The hose kit itself is simple enough to install with the directions and diagram furnished by Dr Rebuild. However installing and adjusting the actuators, particularly the actuator for the wiper door is a job that requires a lot of care and expertise, because the adjustment has to be precisely right or the wiper door will not cycle. This part of the task is definitely not a job for the average home mechanic. At the end of the installation and after successful testing of the entire system the car was checked over. The owner was notified that he needed front suspension bushings and lower ball joints and an alignment, but that other than this item his car is in excellent condition and ready to hit the southern California road system this spring. #DickGuldstrand #GuldstrandPerformance

Great News-The Guldstrand GS90 still winning today! Glad to hear the latest News #DickGuldstrand GS90 -The WINNER at Grand National Roadster Show- Congrats Charlie Budenz!! OKOKOK, It wasn't the overall show winner for the title of "America's Most Beautiful Roadster"...(AMBR)...... But it was a class win for 'Full Sport'...and I will graciously accept that. The only really odd thing was that, after three days of open display to the public, the photo shown at the awards ceremony the car was wearing it's form-fitting KUSTOM car cover, complete with hash marks! The show theme this year was "The Need for Speed," which had a lot to do with the acceptance of my entry, as this is a very special car with tremendous highway speed capability. Dick Gulstrand and his team of entrepreneurs created a modern Corvette that was well ahead of it's time: sleek & voluptuous styling during a period rife with chiseled wedge-shapes, fixed-projector headlights, aluminum 4-cam engine, larger Brembo brakes with huge 18" tires mounted on wide 3-piece OZ wheels finished off with a tuned exhaust system to give loud voice to 7,000 RPM shifts. It does NOT sound like any other Corvette... At 3.5 feet tall, this is the tallest trophy in my collection, so I must say 'thank you' to all of you who have helped me bring this car project to fruition. So this may read like an 'OSCAR' script...because it is: #DicKGuldstrand #GuldstrandPerformance for his fantastic creation; Davey & Norma Jordan for assistance with revealing the car as well as introduction to the owner; Paul Merrigan for his inspiration with the project; Doug Magnon, Bill Losee & Tony Adamowicz from Riverside International Automotive Museum (RIAM)for their perservering assistance; neighbors Bruce Mallery & Ron Bechtold for transit moves; my itinerent personal banker, Gene Wood (BofA, ret.)and finally my racing Crew Chief and older son, Joe, for all he has done for me over the years! What really made this annual 3-day show so special as well as different to me was the number of people who stopped by to chat about the car and it's story. I heard the same refrain here that I heard while at the 60th Anniversary of Corvette staged at Laguna Seca raceway for the Monterey ROLEX Historics; specifically, that so many people had seen pictures of the car in various magazines, but this was their first opportunity to actually SEE the car out in the world.
