A major factor in successful practicing is staying positive. We accomplish this by incorporating new concepts (chords,scales,songs) and techniques gradually. In other words, try to practice new things a little at a time. 5 minutes here and there is a much more efficient way to introduce things to your hands, while sitting there for an hour trying to force something will only lead to frustration and anxiety. Practicing correctly is key to progress because practicing correctly allows us to navigate more smoothly through the more difficult moments of learning (and there will always be plenty of those).

If you are finger-picking on the guitar try growing your nails out a little. If you try this make sure the nails are filed smoothly because you want the nail to contact the strings cleanly. The advantage of the nail is it grips the string better and is harder and stronger than the flesh of the fingertips, providing a better tone and more power/volume.
