We are starting parenting workshops! Every 3rd Thursday of the month, Kathryn Strong will lead Social Edge modules for our enrolled families. Module 1: Parenting Styles & Child Outcomes will be offered on Thursday, April 15th 2:00pm-3:00pm via Zoom. In this module, parents will learn how family-of-origin experiences shape parenting styles. Parents will take a parenting style quiz, discuss, and apply dimensions of parenting styles learning about child outcomes for each parenting style, and understand which style will lead to the best outcomes for their child.

Practical life activities are applicable for all ages, even infants, and change depending on what the child can do at each stage of development. The activities can start with something as simple as pulling pants up or washing hands and can get as complicated as baking a dessert, or even developing a business plan in the elementary or middle school years.

Ms. Casey (our Lead Toddler Guide) loves Hand Washing. This job involves a LOT of steps for a Toddler, and Ms. Casey enjoys how it helps with order, concentration, coordination, and independence; which are four of the most important elements to a Montessori job. Most importantly, the children love this work. It has water AND bubbles, they can’t ask for much more! An added bonus is that now more than ever, hygiene and handwashing are skills to be focusing on both in the school and home environments.

Staff Spotlight: Casey Farber Ms. Casey is our Lead Toddler Guide! Her favorite thing about Montessori is that it instills a love of learning in the child. We guide and follow the child towards certain lessons but the child gets time to choose work that they are interested in and feel a sense of satisfaction getting to do. Daily, I see a young child repeat a certain job over and over until they feel fulfilled and often can hear a sigh of satisfaction. Check back on Wednesday to learn about Ms. Casey’s favorite Montessori material-hand washing!
