Guajome Schools is honored to host this workshop on Trama-Informed Parenting with Dr. Brent Crandal and Dr. Al Killen-Harvey. Parents and caregivers play an essential role in helping children and teenagers recover from traumatic events. The more caregivers learn about how traumatic events affect their children (whether toddler, school-age, teen, youth, or adult), the more they understand the reasons for their children’s behaviors and emotions and the better prepared they are ...to help them cope. The presentation will touch upon some of the following topics: understanding trauma's impact on the children in your care, how to help your children feel safe, how to help your children understand and manage overwhelming emotions, learn about trauma-focused treatment, and understand why it’s so important to take care of yourself as the parent/caregiver while you are supporting your child who has experienced a trauma. Vista’s rich history dates back thousands of years. Archeological evidence shows human activity in the greater San Diego area for at least 10,000 years. Most of the recorded history is available after Spanish settlers arrived in the area around 1542. At that time, Vista was home to the Payomkawichum (Luiseño) people. Incursion on the land was steady throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. The largest impact on the Luiseño population, however, came with the founding of the San Luis Rey Mission in 1798 and subsequent land grants of Rancho Guajome, Rancho Buena Vista, and Agua Hedionda Y los Manos. The Rancho Guajome Adobe is a national landmark and located right up the street from GPA! Do you know what Guajome means in the Luiseño language?
