What do you believe in? "Whatever you believe, you will find that you are correct. The universe has a way of presenting to you exactly what you believe. If you believe life is great, you are correct. If you believe life it tough you are correct." This is a quote from Anita Moorjani about her Near Death Experience.... You become what you think about.

Identity = the words and/or labels that we have some attachment to based on the meaning we or others give. You have to be willing to let go of the identities that created your currently reality in order to re-identify with the new perspectives, habits, ways of being that create your new reality. Read Part 2 of this 3 part series I've written.

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) German writer, statesman So, Freedom or Slavery? We're going to hit on multiple layers today. Why should you care? My intention is exploring this topic is to offer some perspectives that you may or may not have considered before. My assumption is that it might stir up a variety of emotions and get you thinking differently and moving into the direction of empowerment.

Why are we here? Such a big question. Considering this question can be inspiring, daunting and everything in-between. While I am not the ultimate authority on this (not sure who is really), I believe that it is to experience being alive and to express oneself as truly desired.... The more I choose to express myself how I want to express myself, the more people seem to be attracted and drawn to me. I don't say this to boast, because at the end of the day, it's not me personally they are attracted to, it's the characteristic of freedom of expression they are drawn to. Or maybe they want to cultivate the quality of living from the heart. We admire characteristics in others that we want for ourselves. Who do you admire? What specific characteristics or qualities do you admire in them?

Words, labels and identity are pervasive. They’re literally everywhere. Unavoidable. I want to offer up a few perspectives on these things. Let’s see just how deep the rabbit whole goes...

I love clouds. They bring up a lot of different things for me - imagination, spaciousness, wonder.... Today my partner and I were walking around Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA and something new came to mind: Our (humans) emotions are just like the clouds in many ways:... - Sometimes they're big and sometimes they're small - Sometimes they're high and sometimes they're low - Sometimes they're light and sometimes they're dark - They're all beautiful and unique in their own way One thing I know is that clouds don't stay in the same place for long. They're constantly changing and moving. When it comes to human emotions, they want to change and the want to move. When they're heavy, they want to release. Emotions want to move. They are impermanent just like the clouds. We can watch them come and we can watch them go. Let your emotions be like the clouds. Embrace their beauty and uniqueness.

Resilience is one of the most important skills one can develop to navigate a constantly changing world. How do you define resilience? I define is as one's ability to weather and navigate a storm. The ability to cope with challenges. The ability to transition from A to B without needless suffering and emotional turmoil. The ability to see the silver lining in hardships whilst being in it. Rather than life happening to them (aka victimhood), people with resilience believe that ...life is happening for them (I'm at cause). People with a high degree of resilience have the ability to consciously choose the meaning of life's circumstances - they choose their own story and narrative. When are you most resilient? For me, it's when I am able to maintain awareness of my mind, self-talk, thoughts, feelings and emotions without letting them take me over. I watch the circus play out without getting hijacked by my emotions.

"Humans want to be better today than they were yesterday. We want to be smarter, more loving, more happy, more creative and so on. We want to feel confident and motivated. We want clarity on what’s important to us and to do something meaningful with our lives." Check out our article on ways to think about the people in your business and on your teams. How often do you slow down to reflect on where you are now and where you want to go? Here are some questions you might consider asking yourself to go from your Current Reality TO your Ideal Outcome. - What’s the problem or challenge you’re currently facing? - How long has it been an issue? How many hours do you think you’ve spent on this?... - What’s this costing you? Mentally, emotionally, physically, financially? - What have you done to address it? What’s that cost you? - What if nothing changes? - What do you want instead? What else might become possible? Ideal outcome. - What’s at stake for you personally? - What's the first next step you can take towards getting what you want? - What’s the opportunity cost (the gain you’re missing out on by not taking action)?
