Today we are spotlighting Taj Dashaun on our new series of The Spotlight Series: Black History Month Edition. Taj Dashaun was a former football player until his career ended. He had no idea what he wanted to do after football and struggled with depression. After years of uncertainty, Dashaun started to focus on helping others. He now helps retired athletes adapt to life after sports. ... "It’s become my personal mission and passion to reach out and help others overcome the fear, frustration, and uncertainty associated with life post-athletics." -Taj Deshaun Information found at: https://www.tajdashaun.com/about For ways to take action and support black lives, you can use the following link: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ #blm #blackhistorymonth #calworks #grossmontcollege #grossmontcollegecalworks
The next person we're highlighting on our Spotlight Series: Black History Month Edition is Madame CJ Walker and her hair products. Madame CJ Walker was the first African-American self-made millionaire. After the emancipation proclamation, she was the first in her family to be born free. She moved to St. Louis and married Charles J. Walker who would be the inspiration for the name of her hair care line. She made the hair care products because she had a scalp disorder that caus...ed her to lose a lot of her hair. She created her own treatment that would eventually change the black hair industry. The Walker System consisted of scalp preparation, lotions, and iron combs. Walker's homemade pomade was also highly favored. The reason her hair care products were different from others is because she focused on the health of the woman who would use the products. Her business exploded in success. Walker opened a school and factory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1908. Then in 1910, she opened her headquarters in Indianapolis, leaving her daughter to run the Pittsburgh branch. Her hair care products are still available to use today. They are being sold exclusively through Sephora. Posted by @rescueorg. A powerful message for all voters out there! As a Black man in America, I see that there is a lot of racism and injustice going on. That's one issue that's very personal to me. There’s also immigration and education, so many issues that I can’t list all of them. Fredrick Shema is a refugee from Uganda living in Boise, Idaho, and working as a Youth Success Specialist for the IRC, where he supports newly arrived refugee youth. This year, he is voting fo...r the first time in the 2020 U.S. Elections. Swipe to see him returning his ballot! I believe it is really crucial for me to vote because my vote will determine the next administration and will determine what policies we will see and what policies will be in my favor. His message to other U.S. citizens? If you want change, you must exercise your right as a citizen. Whether it’s in person or by mail, please vote because your vote counts and your vote will change the world. Posted @withregram @drnortontherapy It’s okay to press pause!! Try asking yourself questions so you can use the information to fuel change - Pause: What do I really need right now?... Pause: Why am I feeling this way? Pause: What small adjustment could I make to feel more aligned with what matters most to me? Pause: How am I spending and investing in my own energy? #slowdown #presspause #selfcare #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #grossmontcollegecalworks
