There a so many influential people to choose from, so for our final person of the month we chose Dr. George Franklin Grant. He not only was a dentist but he was the first African American faculty member at Harvard University. We hope you enjoyed learning about the amazing people as much as we did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Franklin_Grant

Our third person was influential in many ways. We chose Dr. Ida Gray Nelson Rollins, she became the first African American woman to graduate with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in the United States back in 1887. She overcame many hurdles in her life. https://www.blackpast.org//rollins-ida-gray-nelson-1867-1/

For our second influential person we chose Dr. Robert T. Freeman. After being selected as one of "the first six-persons" to enter Harvard's Dental Program. He shortly became the first African American to graduate with a dental degree in the United States on March 10, 1869. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Tanner_Freeman

In honor of Black History Month, Griggs Orthodontics will be sharing influential people within the dental community. We are going to share one person each week throughout the month. Orthodontics is our passion and our first individual of influence is Dr. Wendell Cotton. He was the first African American Orthodontist to open a private practice. Dr. Wendell Cotton also went to UCSF's Orthodontic program, the program Dr. Griggs graduated from as well. This is a wonderful piece of history to share. https://aaregistry.org/sto/wendell-cotton-orthodonist-born/

In honor of national patient appreciation week, we would like to take a moment and thank each and every one of you for being the best patients we could ask for. We are very lucky to have had the pleasure to work with all of you. We look forward to the future and continuing to be able to treat all of you. We love you all!
