It's National Sibling Day and our Sister residents are enjoying lunch with their families after almost a year! This is truly a momentous occasion for all of us, but especially Mey and Marna. Oure two sisters are seen here eating home made bento boxes, beautiful traditional Japanese umeboshi adorns their rice today! Marna's children brought bento boxes for the whole family to share as these two siblings share a meal after many months apart. We are on a mission of safe connections through our "Crawl, Walk, Run" program. Encouraging safe steps towards a healthier future for everyone. This week we will be learning a new work out routine that the residents will be teaching next week. Every morning we will try to repeat the same 15 min chair exercise. When we are lucky enough to have Star lead the group, she always associates movements with music. Each work out is prompted by a different song. Music association helps memory and is often used to teach math, languages, and in this case, exercise

#tbt Throwback to last month when we celebrated 1 of the #centennialbirthday at Greenhaven Estates. Ms.Toshie turned 100yrs young last month. We were able to capture this beautiful moment with her opening one of her gifts after the car show and window visit with her family and friends. To this day she loves the company of her bunny. Training and learning day here at Greenhaven Estates! Our dedicated team of care staff was joined today by Sutter Care at Home to run through a simulation training for the Hoyer Lift. You can even see our Resident Care Coordinator, Brittney, trusts her team with her entire body! That’s how much we respect and care for the team that cares for you!!! Paying tribute to all of our Veterans here at Greenhaven Estates. James Vanostran Served in the United States Air Force for 8years. James joined the military for work and served his Country with dedication and honor. Though James has no war history he has great memories fighting in the Air Force. James later became a Doctor and took great lessons with him from the military. Have to keep your mouth shut, is one of the main qualities he remembers to be a great soldier. Happy birthday to you happy birthday to you! Today we made sure that we surprised our resident with balloons and a song from staff for her birthday. We made sure that her family was able to watch from the tablet, and then she enjoyed a video visit in her room. We are offering Skype, zoom, and duo video meetings at this time! It’s really important to us and the residents that they keep in contact with their family at this time. Every day we are scheduling new appointments, make sure to book yours today! We are very lucky to have our very own resident interior decorator living with us, we call her "Star, you may know her as Hazel. Star guided a small group, including our Lifestyle Director, Leslie, in pumpkin painting. She chose specific fall colored paint. She chose Antique Red and Acorn Spice for her pumpkin, Kenny chose Cobalt Blue and striped his pumpkin with Antique Red. Susie decided to give her pumpkin a scarecrow face using Autumn Fest Yellow. But Jean chose Hazard Co...ne Orange with a hint of glitter, looks GREAT Jean! Maintaining appropriate colors that mature adults enjoy looking at is one of the many tiny details that add up to a bigger picture. As we age, colors begin to look muted, using more varied brighter colors help residents distinguish between spaces and find their way around. Color-vision problems in the blue-yellow spectrum affected 45 percent of people in their mid-70s, and that proportion rose to two-thirds by the time people reached their mid-90s. We are so excited after loads of ideas discussed, smells tested and textures sampled residents of Greenhaven Estates are now ready to display their own self made Chamomile flower body butter. All do it yourself made, our Spark way. Exercising in the morning with memory care! Our wonderful caregivers are leading the residents through different varieties of exercises. Some include chair cardio, guided yoga, and sometimes we just have fun with the ball, or you can catch us outside dancing. The American health Association recommends 30 minutes a day for five days of physical activity. Here at Greenhaven we ensure that every morning our residents have the option of participating and even leading and guiding ...morning exercise. If they don’t happen to be a morning person, we also include afternoon yoga, the evening stroll, and Saturday guided meditation and breathing exercise. Exercise helps alleviate stress, combats depression, and helps maintain physical and cognitive abilities.
