The Pollinator plants are THRIVING but need a little TLC!! Native Pollinator Plant Stewardship! STEWARDSHIP FRIDAYS 4PM-5:30PM!... Join us as we continue caring for the pollinator plants--there are just under 1600 plants in various participating pollinator stewardship support locations including Topanga Library, Topanga Elementary Backbone Trail locations, Flower Power, Topanga General Store, the Will Geer Theatricum and Cafe 27 (please note Manzanita & Topanga Mountain School are caring for their plants and do not need help)! The Pollinator plants are THRIVING but need a little TLC!! REMEMBER, ONLY NARROW-WEED NATIVE MILKWEED!! Well Informed nurseries no longer sell or recommend tropical milkweed. The nation’s leading Monarch conservation organizations now recommend planting only native milkweed species. WHY? Tropical Milkweed produces harmful protozoa which deforms and kills the Monarchs here in California! The Xerces Society recommends planting native narrow-leaf milkweed species. Narrow-leaf milkweed, or Asclepias fascicularis, is a relatively showy plant reaching about three feet in height with pale pink to cream colored flowers. With a blooming period lasting from May through October, narrow-leaved milkweed provides plenty of #nectar for adult Monarchs, but more importantly, it provides the necessary leaves that Monarch butterflies depend upon, and none of the harmful protozoa. As with all species of milkweed, pinching off the blooms once they’re spent, a process called deadheading, can greatly prolong the blooming season. That way, the plant keeps putting out more flowers in an effort to fruit and reproduce. Please! Only cultivate #native #milkweed and share this information with friends and fellow #gardeners. PLANT NATIVEWould you like to help restore Topanga's native plant habitat? Stop by and buy your very own pollinator plant or other native plants. EVERY MON-FRI 3PM-5PM. Native flowers act as an important nectar source for butterflies and their seeds provide many small birds and mammals with food. They are drought resistant which thrive in full sun & some in part shade. #pollinatorpower #stewardship #savethebutterflies #community #topangacanyon @xercessociety #saveourpollin...ators #roadmap #youcanmakeadifference #insectapocalypse #habitat #habitatrestoration #pollinatorhabitat #pollution #climatechange #climatecrisis #timetoact #monarchbutterfly #monarchbutterflies #NativeHabitat #EcologicalRestoration #Vervain #Pollinator #SaveTheBees #Ecosystem #NativeResourcePreservation #Native #Conservation #ProtectOurPlanet #NaturalHabitat #EcoFriendly See more
