" I once had a pretty fraught relationship with my skin colour. I remember secretly wishing my skin was fairer. Buying foundations slightly lighter than my natural shade. Not spending too much time in the sun so as not to get tanned. Using bleaching creams on my face and body, or editing my pictures to look less brown, thinking it was totally normal to want to be lighter. Though I’ve never really believed it, somewhere along the line I, like so many of us, was programmed to see lighter as more beautiful.
