We join everyone across the world marking #YomHaShoah to remember the millions of lives lost in the #Holocaust. We honor the victims by keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive and by continuing to learn and to educate younger generations so that humanity #NeverAgain experiences such atrocities. The thread running through this year’s Greek Presidency of International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance - IHRA is Teaching and Learning about the Holocaust- the universal lesson of Holocaust remembrance to defend historical truth and to combat denial and distortion. #Onthisday: Greece’s national poet, Dionysios Solomos, was born on April 8, 1798. A central figure of the Heptanese School of poetry, the Zakynthos-born poet, was recognized as a pioneer thanks to his passion to nurture the demotic language and combine the Cretan literature with the demotic songs. He was also the first Greek poet of European stature since the seventeenth century. Solomos is considered Greece’s national poet not only because he wrote the "Hymn to Liberty", wh...ich is used as the Greek national anthem, but also because he contributed to the preservation of earlier poetic tradition and highlighted its usefulness to modern literature. The Hellenic Innovation Network's next webcast will be going live this Thursday, May 6th at 12:00pm EST with an online conversation on #Greece's Digital Transfo...rmation featuring Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Greece’s Minister of Digital Governance. Minister Pierrakakis, a graduate of Harvard Kennedy School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is radically simplifying citizen interactions with the government, from birth through license, marriage and other life transitions, by streamlining access to this data and increasing its utility. By the end of 2021 the Greek government will issue a new digital identity card to allow citizens to access digital services with security, and Greece ranks second among EU member-states in bandwidth concession for 5G telecommunication network licenses. H.E. the Ambassador of Greece to the USA, Ms. Alexandra Papadopoulou, will also be honoring us with her participation by introducing this online discussion which will be moderated by the HIN's Michalis Bletsas (Director of Computing, MIT Media Lab).
