Here's the second episode of our pond build from about 10 years ago. Pond is going great and should be for many more years. Hope you enjoy. We get down to some real work in this episode. https://youtu.be/xgmKRj38MfY

10 years ago I was fit to be tied. I had rebuilt my original Aquascape pond with what I considered to be decent filtration. I had installed a bottom drain, made the pond deeper and lost all of the gravel that once had been on the bottom. I'd installed a bead filter that was supposed to be good for a 6,000 pond and a large UV system. This worked very well for a couple of years, but was now melting down and taking me with it. After running for two or three years with nice clea...r water, my pond had now become overrun with string algae and it was driving me crazy. The filter had required maintenance once a week. A process that too 15 to 20 minutes as I back flushed my filters sending the flush water into my nearby bamboo grove. I thought I had this koi business all figured out, but now I was cleaning out the filter every couple of days to restore the flow from a trickle, but it was no longer a matter of turning a few valves and running the Blower for a couple of minutes. Now I had to tear the mechanical section apart and remove pounds of algae by hand. The drainage system in the bamboo grove was plugged so I had to run a hose 50' away to get rid of the waste water. The whole business was no longer any fun. It took a tremendous amount of time each week and used a huge amount of water. Something had to be done so I searched for other filter solutions. And so I came across Peter Waddington's ERIC filters. His arguments made sense to me. I wondered if I could make these filters in the US for sale. It turned out I could and so I did. I purchased four ERICs from Peter to get started. Three were intended for my pond and quarantine tank and the fourth I was hoping would be my first sale. I wound up having an ERIC copy made here leaving me with two for sale. And so began a project to build a new demonstration/development pond using two ERIC Three filters. I thought this project might be interesting to some and here goes the first installment. I hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think. https://youtu.be/6_v1QWB4LZA See more

Just got a great email from a recent customer: "Hi Don Just thought I'd share this with you. On my 125g American cichlid tank the nitrates pre WC would be 80ish ppm dark red, after WC 40ish ppm red but not dark red. Well now with the biohome, in 2 FX4s my nitrates run about 5 ppm pre WC. Night and day difference now. Just thought you should know ... Thanks Lee " Just love to get emails like that. Happy Fish Keeping!

That time again, time for another pond update. After the smoke cleared we had a great September. https://youtu.be/CxWTBGT9C0E

GreatWave Engineering 07.11.2020

Well we've made it to September. Just posted Pond Conditions for August. Tough month, but the pond is looking good. Always great to take a few moments at the end of the day to just sit and relax and enjoy the koi and the sounds of the water falling. https://youtu.be/1HTVgwhvKOY

This video by the PondGuru is a couple of years old, but the advice is still sound. The ratings on filters and the pathetic amount and type of media they usually include is a joke. Hope you enjoy. Stay safe, and... Happy Fish Keeping! https://youtu.be/L5FkSTYkEAE

Quite a while back now I got an email from Matt who was interesting in testing Biohome BioGravel. I sent him on condition he let me know what he found out. It took a while due to reasons he points out in the video, but finally got some results. Matt did a great video I think. I hope you like it. We'd love to hear what you think. https://youtu.be/8HZ6VmzlsSo

The Biohome Brick is a new variety of media tageting marine tanks and sump applications. Just got some info from a customer planning to use these new media. You can check out his coral and sump here: https://greatwaveeng.com/kurt-jungels-layfayette/

Great to see someone on the other side of pond working on a similar RO System.

Just finished a fishless cycle of the Delta 60. It took a bit longer than I expected. I expect because I sort of overdid the amount of food to start. The filter continues to run flawlessly. Next we'll see how much food it can deal with. Then we'll tear it down and see how well it handled the load. After that we'll have it up for sale. I look forward to hearing you questions or comments. Hope you enjoy the show. Stay safe, and... Happy Fish Keeping!... https://youtu.be/f6MtsLCAlsQ

This is a long read, but there's lot of pictures. In 2012-13 I rebuilt my koi pond to serve as a demonstration, development system for the Endless Rivers filters I intended to develop and sell. That didn't work out so well, but this story may help someone thinking of building or rebuilding their pond. Or, koi keepers might just find it interesting. Anyway here it is: https://greatwaveeng.com/pond-rebuild-2012-13/
