A big shout out to our latest and greatest Corpsmember of the Month for April, Katana Hernandez! Katana is currently attending the San Joaquin County Office of Education Comeback Kids program and she recently enrolled into San Joaquin Delta College and AmeriCorps. Katana supports both the recycling and natural resource divisions and brings a motivating performance to the team each and every day. Congratulations Katana, keep the drive alive!

GVCC is in Tracy today at the annual Clutch Burners Picnic in the Park event from 8am-4pm. Our team is providing recycling outreach and hiring opportunities to local attendees. Over 100 volunteers, including GVCC and the City of Stockton - Local Government, supported this weekend clean-up effort at Oak Park. Great job team, now it’s time to play ball!!

On Saturday GVCC teamed up with Shred-it and the City of Manteca to provide a multi-item collection event for city residents. This 18 year event attracts anywhere between 800 and 1,100 cars annually. GVCC was on hand this year to support the collection of used tires and electronic waste. The GVCC #WasteDiversion and #Recycling Teams have #Stockton surrounded today for multiple collection and clean-up events! Our crews are partnering with local agencies to divert mattresses, electronic waste, tires and bulky items from homes and streets directly to processing centers. This afternoon, members from GVCC and students from San Joaquin County Office of Education COSP are completing a Divers Education Workshop in preparation for upcoming DMV exams. A driver’s license can mean freedom, mobility and additional opportunities for our members and students. Getting from point A to point B will open doors!

GVCC collects and recycles between 6,000 and 8,000 illegally dumped tires each year. The tires are retrieved from a variety locations in the Central Valley, rural lands and foothill locations. This Saturday, GVCC is partnering with the Mattress Recycling Council and Amador County for Amador County's Fire Prevention Clean-Up Day!! Amador County is working to bring fire risk awareness to the residents of Pioneer by providing a free clean up for excess items stored on properties. The goal is to clear 100 feet of defensible around each home.
