We have reopened our whisky lounge. It is an intimate private space for small events, celebrations and reunions with a limit of six people per party. The table is a beautiful pattern that resembles wagyu. And it also features a wall of whisky. Swipe > for whisky wall... #ittoryugozu

Hello, this is Ethel, Gozu’s pastry chef. Over the weekend, I had the privilege of participating in a charity fundraiser to raise awareness for the violence towards the Asian community organised by @serenachowfisher along with @moesuggah @harryflager @dough_hou @onebakersjourney I kept wondering what that bakery box meant to me. At the end of the day, it was a means to raise money for awareness for the message we want to bring across.... I’m Singaporean, and grew up mostly in Singapore. I’m not American Asian, but what I’ve built within those 4 years are friendships that I cherish as much as my family. To see my Asian American friends fear for their lives as they walk down the streets with tasers or pepper sprays tightly gripped in their pockets really breaks my heart. What I’m trying to say is that we need to build a safer place for everyone to coexist in and only the people who live within the community can make that change. We’ve heard ridiculous statements made by some people that aren’t even true! But people believe them, why? Because of the lack of education. And with that comes education and understanding of each other’s cultures - what better way to educate than with food! Now, lesson time. A couple of questions I’ve been asked as a singaporean chinesehave been, Where’s that? China? No? Then is it part of malaysia? Or can you chew gum?, is Singapore a communist country?. No, yes and no. Singapore is a country and she is a tiny island in south east Asia, it is very near to Malaysia and it’s surrounded by Indonesia. We speak English as our first language because we coexist with 4 different races (Chinese, Malays, Indians and eurasians) and we learn a second language in school (usually our mother tongue). In Singapore, neighborhood bakeries sell slices of buttercream cakes and they’d often be given out as gifts for weddings, newborn celebrations or even eaten just as an afternoon snack. The common flavors for traditional desserts are coconut, palm sugar and pandan and I merged the idea of the buttercream cake and traditional flavors together to bring forth a little bit of my culture. Every Asian person has their story just like everyone else.

Did you know Chassagne-Montrachet was historically a red wine region? Although some of the best Chardonnays in the world come from this village, much of it is better suited to Pinot Noir due to plots of red clay soils.
