A satisfied Yelp customer... Review from Dave L. Los Angeles, CA... 4.0 star rating 7/8/2013 Other people have written enough about this, so I'll just say that whoever's running their kitchen really knows what they're doing and focus on a few highlights. 1. Their Dal-Of-The-Day seems to be different every time I go, but it's always prepared exceedingly well -- at a level that actual, dedicated Indian restaurants (outside of, say, Artesia) can only aspire to. In fact, if I lived closer, I'd consider going to Govinda several times a week just to eat a bowl of their dal. 2. The cake at the end of the buffet line is baked by a lady named Gouri who works in the giftshop upstairs. We ordered a whole cake from her for a recent party and it was just dynamite. Reasonably priced, solid on the fork, not dry, totally vegan. I think it's got whole wheat (atta?) flour in it too, so yay: fiber. The german-chocolate one is good, but the vanilla and lemon ones are probably my favorite slices of cake in LA. If they have either of those, I have to get a piece to bring home for sharing or I get in trouble. 3. The potato salad. I love it and always have seconds even though it gives me little asafoetida burps a couple hours later. Peas? Vegan mayonnaise? I've tried duplicating this at home and damn, it's tricky. 4. The restaurant is quiet and there are booths tucked into little enclosures. Perfect for when you want to dine with someone and have a semi-private conversation. I have held actual client lunch meetings here, believe it or not. My only complaint is about small cups for water, but that really wouldn't be a problem if I'd remember to bring my own tumbler or something. Listed in: Indispensible Eats

Tips for Govinda's Natural Food Rstrnt Recommends ChrisBldrg... It's all here :-). Even if you're a meat-eater you'll find the vegetarian food here very satisfying. A big plus is that they have so many choices you don't end up with a sedating pile of rice. It's buffet style all you can eat here with loads of good and eye-opening choices. The staff are wonderful and the food's even extremely reasonable, bordering on cheap. The nut loaf (think meat loaf) is delish and what I always look for. There's a temple next door if you care to visit. Also, upstairs is a wonderful book and gift shop with all things Iskcon/Hindu. You can even buy some of their cookbooks to make the stuff from the restaurant at home. A trip here is time well-spent!

iluve2eat Delicious, Good Karma Restaurant!. I highly recommend this restaurant. Not only to vegetarians but also to the meat eaters.. just to prove that vegetarian food is not bland and that there IS a veriety of vegetarian food to eat. I have been a vegetarian for several years and I love this place, they offer a great variety of vegetarian friendly items. Even some vegan dishes. This restaurant is generally Indian-inspired, but I think they really tone it down on the spice...s compared to other Indian restaurants. The staff is absolutely polite! What can you expect from Hare Krishnas?? ;) The food is delicious and inexpensive! $7 for all you can eat buffet. You can also visit the gift shop upstairs where you'll find a great selection of imports from India. Including clothing, Hare Krishna literature, incense, accesories, beads and much more! Next door you will find the ISKCON temple. Definitely a must if you are in the area. An interesting experience!
