Happy fall from our organic olive grove. Farmer Brooke planted 70 acres of olives at Gold Ridge Organic Farms in 2001. Coastal breezes and Gold Ridge soils make our West Sonoma location ideal for growing olives. We make four different blends of olive oils each year: Arbequina, Tuscan, Minerva and Picholine. Our harvest should start in November and go through the end of December. End of summer Greek salad with a square of French Feta on top...Persian cucumber (smaller and fewer seeds), cherry tomato, black olives (I use the really salty dry cured olives or Kalamata pitted), chopped fresh oregano, fresh lemon and Gold Ridge Organic Farms Olive Oil... any of the four types will be delicious - your choice. We are seeing smokey conditions at the farm from the West Coast fires. We are fortunate that Olives are not as prone to smoke damage compared to some other crops in the area. Olives have thick skins and that can be helpful to get through conditions like these. We expect to harvest between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
