Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on earth, standing 29,032 feet above sea level. (Holy heights!) With all of this somewhat distorted talk about mortgage rates nudging up a hair, I started thinking about how to compare our current rates to climbing Mount Everest. For fun, let’s say the very top of Mount Everest was a 7% rate, which is about the historical average over the last 40 years in the U.S. not even a bad rate.... That means Fannie Mae’s current 30-year fixed average rate of 3.02% (we’ll round it to 2% for this Everest example!). That means our rates are only 12,441 feet up the mountain, or only 42% of the way up to the summit - not even close to halfway! In fact, base camp for Everest sits at 17,598 feet high! And a rate increase from 2.5% to 3%? That means interest rates only hiked up about 2,073 feet, or a little more than twice the height of Carpenter Hill in Folsom, the highest point in Sacramento (which isn’t very high at all). So, what's the point of this whole extended example? Rates are still incredibly good, so don't miss out on your chance to buy or refinance! #goldenbaymortgage #gbmortgagegroup #refinance
