As a company we have not been supportive enough in undoing the systemic racism which continues to exist in the communities that we serve. Though Goat Hill Pizza has committed to directing all of its donations to the needs of children in the form of gift certificates and pizzas for annual school auctions and fundraisers - we’ve come to realize the greater majority of those that ask for our support are the schools in the more privileged, less racially diverse neighborhoodsn...eighborhoods that already have a large financial advantage. That privilege allows those schools to have fundraisers that generate more money for their schools thereby perpetuating their privilege. We asked ourselves, what about the schools that do not have that type of privilege? How do they get the additional funding to support programs to improve the education of their students? We feel, as a company, we must participate more proactively in addressing that disparity. This is a call to action. We propose, and we ask all likeminded businesses and the schools they support, to consider earmarking a portion of their fundraising proceeds say 50% - to a designated sister school which does not have the same privilege. It is time we all work together to address these systemic inequities. While we educate ourselves about the black experience and systemic racism, we must also provide additional support to those children who are experiencing social and economic inequities and racism daily.
