Good Rotation- Rotating through the hips and thoracic spine. Bad Rotation - Hips don’t rotate and rotation occurring at lumbar spine... Remember that when rotating, your lumbar spine needs to remain stable! The rotation occurs above(thoracic) and below (hips) the lumbar spine. Think about loading your back hip when you throw, Then quickly rotate the hips and shift your weight to the front leg. (You can notice how my back foot is able to rotate because there is not much weight on it)
DON’T MAKE YOUR LOWER BACK PAIN WORSE! The Thoracic Spine, not the lumbar spine should be the site of greatest amount of rotation of the trunk. When an ...Individual practices rotation exercises, he or she should be instructed to Think about the motion occurring in the area of the chest. Rotation of the lumbar spine is more dangerous than beneficial. Rotation of the pelvis and lower extremities to one side while the trunk remains stable or is rotated to the other side is particularly dangerous. Sahrmann, Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement Impairment Syndromes, pg. 61-62 & 72 Here are some stretches YOU need to get rid of if you want to avoid lower back pain. Our Lumbar Spine should be more stable than mobile, so trying to stretch or loosen your lower back may be doing more harm than good.
Out with the old way of training your core and in with the new!! If you want a strong sexy core and no back pain... Start by eliminating the exercises shown in ...the video. Instead, try to incorporate the alternate version for better results! Instead of forcing your lumbar spine through motions of bending, rotating and twisting, We need to train it to resist those movements. A good analogy I learned is, Imagine your lumbar spine as a paper clip, the more you bend and twist it, the weaker it will get. A over worked lumbar spine can cause a herniated disk. To try and avoid this think of training the ANTI’s: - Anti-Rotation - Anti Extension - Anti Lateral Flexion
