Look at the size of these grape clusters! Everything seems to be coloring up nicely in our estate vineyard, but the grapes are still quite sour. Verasion is occurring in our estate Zinfandel vineyard right now! This is when the little, hard, green berries start changing color and accumulating sugar. We look for sugar in the range of 24.5-26 Brix (percent sugar) depending on the growing conditions of the year. For us, it's more about picking the grapes at the highest flavor concentration rather than at a specific sugar level as some other wineries do. How long do you think it will take before these grapes are ready for harvest?
