We are so excited to be a part of The Long Intermission. Enjoy this lovely look at theatre on the coast thanks to the wonderful people at MTC. We are honored to be a part. Tune in on the 21st for a fun night with Mendocino Theatre Company!
On this gorgeous Sunday evening, when under normal circumstances you might be eating dinner after a matinee at Gloriana, or MTC, or even on Broadway, give a thought to all the people who make shows come to life. And then share a few bucks with your favorite theatre.
Hello Gloriana Musical Theatre! These are wild times, aren't they? How are you holding up? We really miss you. We miss the music and the hubbub of putting on shows. We miss the gasps and laughter from our audiences, and the quiet that envelopes the theatre when the lights go down. We even miss that loud heater and the slightly bowed stage!... While we long for theatre's return, we connect now in different ways. Sometimes over food. As a gift and a plea, we offer you Messy, But Kind, a wee cookbook from Gloriana and our friends at Willits Community Theatre and Project Sanctuary. Head to http://www.gloriana.org/cookbook to buy a copy. You will get to know friends in a different way, have a chance to change up your quarantine routine, and help our three organizations keep doing the work we love--and need--during this difficult time. THANK YOU!
Dear Gloriana Family, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the postponement of the 2020 season due to the COVID19 pandemic. With the rest of the year so unpredictable, it makes more sense to use the remainder of it to strengthen what we have while we sidestep uncertainty. The past few weeks and months have offered us layers of valuable lessons, not the least of which is that we need each other now more than ever. We need each other to care, to support, to stand up, and wh...en it all feels like too much, we need each other to laugh, to cry, to distract, and to entertain. We miss our Gloriana Family desperately right now, which is why we believe it is paramount to find ways in which our community can stay connected. As a Board, we are brainstorming ideas - health-conscious, socially distant ideas - ranging from offering online theater courses, a local talent show, and getting to know former participants in our productions. Much like our performances, however, our ideas are much less meaningful without an audience, which is why we are soliciting your input to build an off-season that includes care, support, laughter and entertainment. 2020 will allow our Board to strengthen the organization, build resources, and expand our network to solidify our future. In the meantime, we need you more than ever. Please take the time to fill out our off-season survey and contribute your ideas and skills to what we believe can be something special. Sincerely, Miranda Ramos, President Gloriana Musical Theatre Board of Directors SURVEY LINK: https://docs.google.com//1Cy4sYlBcRqzEG86dAvW5fqlXJ7v6pMPb
As a community musical theater, we stand on the shoulders of giants: directors, musicians, performers, choreographers, and myriad other theater artists. As in all of American cultural life, African American artists have led the way, pushed the envelope, and created the most iconic characters and works in our canon. Can we imagine a world without Geoffrey Holder and The Wiz? Or Audra MacDonald in, well, anything? How can we even consider ourselves aficionados if we don’t ackno...wledge how African American dance influences all of Broadway choreography, or that Rent would never have been as powerful without gospel-influenced singing? Black lives, black labor, and black artistry are central to musical theatre. Black voices, though, have often been marginalized and erased. As a community theater in rural Northern California, we cannot claim to be immune; we pledge to keep working to celebrate black artists, and other artists of color, on the coast and around the world. We can, and must do better.
Dear Friends of Gloriana, How are you? As COVID-19 continues to change the lives of our world community, we felt we should reach out and connect with our Gloriana family.... I, for one, am disappointed. As I write this, we have already postponed both our big fundraiser, A Little Night Music, as well as auditions for our summer show, Little Women. Unfortunately, we don’t know when we will again be able to welcome guests back to our theatre, which is the heart of what we do. It’s all very sad. I am also worried. How will our little community survive this? How are all our performers and techies doing without the Gloriana home they’ve come to love and rely upon? Will directors and musicians and choreographers be ready to work in such unpredictable times? Will there be thoughtful and creative ideas about how to make our shows safe for our performers and our audiences? Much like the rest of the world, uncertainty surrounds our theatre and its family of artists. There are some things, however, of which I am certain: Gloriana is courageous, loving, and resilient. We will do the responsible things: shelter-in-place for now and follow public health guidelines for the future. In the meantime, we will continue to look after each other, get creative about our shows for this season--and the next--and develop proactive responses to the health and financial crises we are facing. We will get through this in much the same way Gloriana has survived previous challenges: together. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank our performers, musicians, donors, audiences, and volunteers for your years, sometimes decades, of support. We would not be here without you. There will certainly be more from us in upcoming months, but for now we ask sincerely, "How are you?" Sage Andersen Vice President, Gloriana Musical Theatre Board of Directors
Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19 and the state-wide stay-at-home order, we regret to inform you that auditions for Little Women have been postponed until further notice. We still encourage you to sign up and as soon as we are able to proceed we will be in touch to reschedule your auditions.
Fun Fact #1: Licensing fees are the most expensive part of putting on our shows. Fun Fact #2: We were going to ask you to help about it at A Little Night Music, but it is, alas, now cancelled. Fun Fact #3: There is something you can do to help.... You can make a tax-deductible donation to our Raise the Rights fund. All you need to do is text "RTR2020" to 44-321 and you can easily donate. Help us save our season!
Bummer! Because of the recommendations by public health officials that we keep social distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are postponing A Little Night Music until the Fall. We want to keep our theatre family safe and healthy. Be on the lookout for more information about the date of the rescheduled event AND ways you can help us keep afloat during this economically challenging time.
