Here are a few tips from our experts on how to keep your electronics from getting fried before their time. 1. Keep ‘em Clean. Like any other electronic and mechanical devices, dirt and dust are real killers. 2. Keep It Tight. Here we’re talking about things like ...connections, strain relief, ground plugs and motor connections. 3. Inspect. It’s very important to periodically inspect the connections to the motor and motor controller. Look for any burnt connections. If you spot anything, call the tech immediately. 4. Look Out for Abuse. After decades in the field, we’ve seen just about everythingincluding the occasional user who gets upset and decides to punch out a display or completely kick through a motor shroud. 5. Heads Up, Sparky. If you notice any arcing or sparking coming out from under your motor shroud, you’ve got a major problem. Motor brushes do more than just wear out. Call us for the inside scoop. Meet Peter Kilgore, Glide’s Service Manager. Peter joined the company as a service technician in 2007. Quickly working his way up, he brings a collective 25 years of vendor certified mechanical repair experience to Glide’s service team. For now, here’s how Pete answered three questions about his experience at Glide: Q: What’s a normal day like for you at Glide?... A: If I’m not personally handling a service call, I arrive at the office around o-dark thirty. First, I fight any fires that may have arisen the night before. Then, I review the daily off-site service schedule and communicate with our field technicians as needed. Next, I check with the mechanical shop foreman and electronic engineers to make sure all in-house repair projects are progressing as expected. Of course, I have my own repair and installation projects to complete, so I’m a pretty important guy. At least that’s what I tell people. Q: What’s the most important thing a potential service client should know before calling you? A: Our phone number. Q: What’s the most satisfying job you’ve performed while at Glide and why? A: I once managed an installation for a prominent vendor that, at 80 pieces of high-end equipment, should have taken about four days to install. However, the client had exactly 48 hours before their grand opening. So, my team and I completed the job working through the night in only 36 hours. For a guy who’s fond of sleeping, it was a tough gig for me. Oh yeah, and then there was this time I installed a treadmill for a famous Hollywood orangutan. Great dude for a monkey. Unfortunately, he insisted he pay me in bananas and bits of colored cellophane. I take great pride in being the first person, it seems, to teach Bingo how to use a checkbook. To this day, his account is never delinquent.
