Tomorrow evening, the City of Glendale, CA’s 20th annual Armenian Genocide Commemoration Event will be presented in a virtual format in lieu of the traditional in-person event held at the Alex Theatre every April 24th. Glendale Arts was proud to participate in planning the powerful, educational program juxtaposing the Genocide of 1915 with the war in Artsakh last fall and the heroes - then and now, near and far, Armenian and non-Armenian - who played a role in the survival and resilience of the Armenian nation and people. We’re thrilled to announce our third Artist Relief Fund recipient, Richy Leis! Richy is a comedian and comedy show producer who, through the art of writing and performing comedy, helps people laugh and enjoy some happiness, no matter what’s going on in their lives. With performances on hold due to the Coronavirus, Richy has been working on joke writing, and has also launched a web series called Comedy Careers. The ongoing web series links industry professionals with budding performers, and includes guests such as professional comedians, writers, club bookers, agents, TV producers, theater directors, and managers. We're missing all of the wonderful Alex Theatre Ambassadors who help make the Alex a special place to experience events. One of our star Ambassadors is Raphael Movsesian, and he recently shared with us why he volunteered as an Alex Ambassador: "Helping those in my community to enjoy the arts and understand a bit about the rich history of the Alex Theatre brought immense satisfaction to me!" Raphael is starting Law School this fall and we wish him the very best in this new journey!

We’re happy to introduce you to our second Artist Relief Fund recipient, Keyhan Kamelian! Thanks to community donations, we are able to support artists who have taken a financial hit due to the pandemic. Keyhan has been a musician in Glendale for the last 15 years. With performances cancelled, he is spending his time sharing skills online, producing music for local artists, and creating music for his own project under the artist name VirgoBoi.
