Tapping the power of telecommunications is essential in keeping Ca. safe in the event of disaster. Last year’s blackouts exposed a weakness in the systems. Now at last the Legislature has a reasonable solution in the form of SB431. It deserves to pass.
Good discussion about the consequences of inadequate testing, track and trace capacity in California.

Responding to the Halloween shooting in Orinda that left 5 dead this past October, the Senate this week approved my bill to deter out-of-control parties at short term rentals on a bipartisan 32-7 vote.

Please join me at a Virtual Town Hall today, June 2, in a conversation with African-American leaders of my Senate district to discuss how we can heal police-community relations. This event will be today, June 2, at 6 p.m. We are at a moment of crisis in race relations particularly between police and people of color. Protests in our own communities over the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer show that we must find a way to heal. My guests and ...I will explore what community leaders can do to improve relations. We will discuss actions to be taken to lower the likelihood of excessive force against people of color. And, how we can lower the temperature so that we can find positive and constructive solutions. You may join this conversation starting at 6 p.m. today, June 2, by streaming the audio over my website at https://sd07.senate.ca.gov/. We will also have a limited number of listen-only telephone lines available. Shortly before 6 p.m. today, call 1-877-226-8216 and dial in the access code 9665133#. Because of the number of participants, we will be taking only written questions for this conversation. Please submit any questions you may have before or during the call to [email protected]
"The reopening of California and the country is catching on like an infection. Having led the nation in locking down, the Bay Area and the state are now following others into a risky attempt to return to normalcy even as the novel coronavirus keeps spreading.... California has lost some 4,000 lives to the contagion despite distancing measures that have likely saved many more. Yes, the state can’t shut down indefinitely, but it should reopen only when officials meet the benchmarks they themselves set, and only at a pace that allows us to gauge the result of each risk before we take the next one."

I love reminders, such as this Memorial Day flyover, acknowledging that today is different from all other days. We are experiencing great difficulties as a community, state and nation. But for most, it can’t compare to the sacrifices of our fallen and their families. We honor them and remind ourselves about true hardships.
