One of the buyers from Cirque du Soleil walked into my booth at a show in Philadelphia and asked if I could make my whimsical clothing and scarves, that already looked like Cirque du Soleil, look more like Cirque du Soleil. I said yes before I could even think. I was surprised as my mouth spoke before thinking, as that was not a normal way for me to react. What can I say? It was one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. I got to talk to the super creative employees of Cirque du S...oleil, in Montreal, about what their next show would be like: the colors, the theme, and many details.... and to be in on some of the early meetings about ideas and collaboration...wow!!! ...I got to see their wig department, a bust of every performer department, glove department, diving into a pool of foam area, and it went on and on with all parts of the performance. It was an amazing collaboration, urging together all of us to fantasize each of our parts.... I designed clothing and thousands of scarves for them with themes from different shows. I had movable parts in the scarves relating to a particular show, we wrote words in yarn on scarves, and had interpreted thier costumes in 3-D, mini size, on the scarves. I had to see many shows, a second, and even a third time. It was super fun to see O from the balcony, the orchestra, and in between. O is a cirque show using pools of water, and dancer-divers performing at their most creative, I would guess.. You can see the scuba divers underneath the water moving around to hold air to the mouths of the performer/divers while under the water, waiting in suspension until it was their cue to come up again for the balance of their performance. The balcony seats were the cheapest seats, but I think it’s the most amazing place to watch O from. It was like seeing a kaleidoscope of dancers under the water from the balcony. From up close it’s a totally different experience. By the way, eau means water in French- so, perhaps, the meaning is lost on some of us Americans. It was a dreamy, surrealistic experience to be with Cirque for 2+ years.

I flipped when I saw this super amazing unique fabric, made for us in Turkey. I felt so strongly about this fabric we have it in three color-ways: Red, Seafoam, and Grey. I have literally seen millions of fabrics over the many years I have been designing.. this one is truly an unusual gem!!! Alicia and I design everything together in our studio in Oakland. Her training was from a couturier. She is an amazing sewer and designer!!! We have the studio set up into areas of: ...sewing and pressing(ironing); cutting, patterns and fabrics; and showroom and shipping. We buy fabrics from hand-painters and dyers and assemble and use them within our own textiles. We use threads and yarns to hand-stitch. That’s what is threaded in the needles. A few of our sewing machines are seen in the video: We have many sewing machines to sew, zig-zag, button holes, button machine, felting, knitting machines, lettuce edging, seam finishing, industrial iron, hemming machines.
