Volunteer Spotlight: Marie has a passion for working with youth and has done so at several different agencies during her life. She has been an engaged member of our community for five years, supporting our girls as a volunteer and as a Women of Impact. For Black History Month, we will be celebrating the Black women who have shaped the history of Alameda County. Our first feature is Delilah Beasley, a historian and newspaper columnist for the Oakland Tribune and the first Black woman to be published regularly in a major metropolitan newspaper. Today marks the beginning of Black History Month! This month and every day we commemorate and celebrate the culture, history, and contributions of African Americans and people of African descent.
Volunteers play a meaningful and necessary role at Girls Inc of Alameda County. At every age group, volunteers build a bridge between Girls Inc. programs and the community. Last month we had a virtual volunteer program for our elementary and middle school programs https://bit.ly/3la8ylo
#fbf to our Girls Inc. virtual summer internships. As one of our internship hosts, Lockheed Martin fostered high school students' interest in STEM through their three-week internship program. The girls attended virtual sessions and worked on their own research project with the help of a Lockheed Martin mentor!
