HOMEOPATHY HAS HUGE SCOPE IN PUO A Case of Pyrexia of Unknown Origin (PUO) Mr X came to my dispensary in a hurry. He was found very desperate. When I asked the ...reason, he told me the situation: My sister’s wedding is fixed next week. But she is admitted in a hospital since two weeks, before that she was under the treatment of our family physician for the same problem fever with body pains. Now they have diagnosed her case as PUO Pyrexia of unknown origin. * As per the information given by him, initially, they had not given many details to other relatives and the family of the boy who was supposed to marry her. Now they are worried about repeated phone calls from the boy’s family as well. All investigations were negative, still fever was continuing. However they felt really embarrassed to answer the public. Only a few days left for the wedding, even some relatives started discussing about postponing the ceremony. What made them more stressful is, one of the uncles of the boy even told that they are not much interested to marry a sick person. Thankfully, in spite of strong pressure from some of the family members, the boy was supportive and caring, and he was ready to wait till she is alright. What Mr X told me is, within two days, the hospital is going to start the treatment for Tubeculosis. Even though TB is not diagnosed, anti TB treatment is usually considered in PUO when there is no response to usual antibiotics. That means, within two days her fever must come down, or else they will start the treatment for TB. So he has come to me asking any possibility to make her alright within two days, and if possible for any possibility to make her ready for the wedding! Treating a patient who is under the care of another physician is against medical ethics. So I felt little confused, so I asked them to get the permission from the physician who was treating her. Thankfully, may be due to the demand of the situation, the physician agreed to give homeopathy. I took her case over the phone. Had a talk with her and her mother, both were really under stress. The indications I got from them: Fever with chills Headache associated with vomiting Pain in the bones with chills Vomiting of bitter liquid I did not think much as I preferred a sharp shot prescription, which often works well in bed side cases, especially when the case is clearly pointing towards the remedy. So given Eupatorium Perfoliatum 200 in water doses**, asked them to repeat the same after every two hours till she feels better. They did the same for thrice, and then she became much better, there were no fever, vomiting and body pains. Overall energy levels improved. Hence they cancelled the TB treatment and discharged her, and the wedding ceremony was conducted on time. Two days after the wedding, the couple visited my dispensary offering thanks to me, in fact thanks to homeopathy, the wonderful art of healing. * Pyrexia of Unknown Origin (PUO) is a condition in which fever persists for more that three weeks without any diagnosis made even after several investigations and one week hospital stay. There are many hidden causes such as infections due to various types of pathogens, autoimmune diseases, hidden abscesses, chronic infectious diseases, cancers, etc. It is often noted that the organisms behind such condition often do not respond to wide varieties of antibiotics and antiviral agents. Such cases often respond wonderfully to homeopathy. ** Water doses: Take 100 ml pure water, and then put one drop of the indicated medicine, then succuss it by 10 downward strokes. Then take one spoon from the bottle, and take it with a glass of water. Before giving the next dose, give 10 downward strokes to the remaining liquid in the bottle, and repeat the same procedure.
