Gilroy Firefighter’s are excited to partner with the Santa Clara Public Health in a program that brings vaccinations to those persons who are homebound and can'...t make it to a vaccination facility. Last week the County launched the Mobile In-home Vaccination Program with our Gilroy firefighters working as vaccinators. Gilroy firefighters are able to meet with homebound persons, in their homes, to provide this much-needed vaccine. . Recently, we have staffed a 12 hour emergency response apparatus in the Santa Teresa District to aid with the drastic increase in 911 emergencies. . The COVID-19 pandemic has recently impacted our community severely. We are now busier than ever. Engine 47 ran the last call ending our total at 6160 calls for service during the year 2020. 7 minutes latter, Medic 47 ran our first call of 2021. Medic 47 is ...a Rescue Ambulance with Patient transport capabilities. We have been experiencing up to 50 minute response times from the private County ambulance provider due to the increase in call volume throughout Santa Clara County. Monday11:56pm, GFD and SSCCFD were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Hecker pass Hwy just west of Santa Teresa Blvd, that had spread the nearby vegetation. Crews were able to quickly stop the vegetation fire and shortly after, the vehicle fire.
