The end of the school year is drawing near! This is our last full month of school! May is the month we show appreciation to our Gidley teachers and staff. Teachers/Staff Appreciation Week starts May 6 to May 10. Teachers and staff will be blessed by having lunch provided for them all week long. This is the perfect time to show your thankfulness to your child’s teacher. You can send a card, flowers, a small snack or classroom supply during the week to say you are gra...teful for them. We our Gidley Teachers!! Next week, Gidley teachers and students 3rd-8th grade will start state testing. PTA is providing a little something to keep the students focused during testing. Ask your kids about it. Also, with testing going on, make sure your child is getting enough sleep, eating well, and arriving to school on time. Box Tops: Last time to turn in your box tops! Dig through your kitchen drawers and cabinets and turn them in before they expire. Turn in date is June 1st The class that has collected the most box tops all year long will get a popsicle party! The next PTA meeting will be on May 9th at 2 pm in the library. Gidley PTA is looking for people who want to get involved and want to help create a fun school experience for their children. Come to the next PTA board meeting on Thursday, April 11 at 2 pm in the library to learn more.... Any current PTA member can be on the board. The only requirement is that you attend monthly meetings. PTA April News Spring is officially here and many things are going on this month at Gidley. Open House has come and gone. Thank you to all the wonderful families who stopped by. ... Book Fair- Remember to stop by the library for the Book Fair going on the night of open house. There is a great selection of books bound to please everyone. The book fair will also be open during the school day April 1-5. This spring, when you buy one book, you get the second one for free! Stock up for summer reading! The Leader In Me program will be put into action on April 5th as Gidley hosts a Leadership Day. Students will showcase Gidley School to guests from El Monte. The lighthouse team and students have been working hard for months preparing for this day. PTA is having a spring craft activity on April 17 during both recess times. Come put some spring in your basket! Also, April 17 will be TK- 6th grade Gidley’s Spring Music Concert with music teacher Ms. Pohjala. Thank you to all who came and participated in Pasta with Parents Night. It was a fun evening with fellow Gidley families and friends. Thank you to the student helpers, teachers and the Reading is Fundamentals committee for providing our activity and books! We appreciate your support of PTA! The winning class for the Pennies for Patients coin collection is.. the Kindergarten class!! They will be celebrating with a pizza party. Thank you for donating to cure cancer. The next PTA meeting is April 11th at 2pm in the library. All are welcome! We will be looking at electing new board members for the next school year. PTA March News Dear Gidley PTA members, Gidley is gearing up for some fun and learning. This week is Read Across Gidley Week. This event coincides with Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Students will participate with fun spirit days all week long, so get your kids to participate and show school spirit. ... Monday- crazy socks day Tuesday- crazy hat day Wednesday- crazy hair day Thursday- bow tie/ tie day Friday- college shirt day Classes will also be having a door decorating contest emphasizing the joy of reading. On Wednesday, March 6, parents are invited to have breakfast and stay for a time of reading with their children. This begins at 7:30 9am in the cafeteria. PTA Pasta Night Dinner pasta event is here!! It will be on Thursday March 21st from 5:30 7pm in the cafeteria. Enjoy a yummy Italian meal, while having fun with Gidley friends, teachers, and families. The cost is $5 per person. Dinner includes choice of pasta entrée, salad, garlic bread and beverage. There will be presales for the dinner meal. Flyers to RSVP and reserve your meal will be coming home with students this week. RSVP and money are due by 3/15. We encourage you to let us know you are coming. Thank you Gidley families for participating in Pennies for Patients, which is an organization that raises money for patients with cancer. We are still tallying up the change to see who the winning class will be. Thank you for turning in your Box Tops! Mrs. Muronaka’s homeroom class won for the most collected box top. Congratulations! PTA February News PTA will be selling Valentine’s Day grams. Students can purchase a Valentine’s Gram for friends, teachers/staff, or family members starting 2/4 2/13 in the library. The grams are $1.00 each. Go ahead and send a little love to someone. Gidley will be participating in Pennies for Patients, which is an organization that raises money for patients with cancer. Through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the money raised will go to research for curing cancer. ... Part of Gidley’s mission is to positively impact our community. This is an excellent way Gidley students can help. Bring in your pennies and coins to your classrooms. The classroom that collects the most will be rewarded with a pizza party. Coming March 6th, Gidley will be celebrating reading during Read Across Gidley Day. The whole school will assemble on the black top and read with one another. Middle school grades will help read to younger grades and parents will have an opportunity to read with their children. PTA Pasta Night Dinner event will be March 13th from 5:30 7pm in the cafeteria. Enjoy a yummy Italian meal while having fun with Gidley friends, teachers, and families. There will be presale tickets for the dinner meal. January News Happy New Year to you all from Gidley PTA! Thank you families for donating to ERA during the months of November and December. Your donations of food and money were greatly appreciated. Thank you also for attending the Winter Sing Along and Gidley’s winter events. ... Here is the latest news from PTA: Box Tops Competition- Turn in your Box Tops during the month of January. The class with the most Box Tops collected will get a party of their choose pizza or popsicle. Last day to turn in Box Tops is February 1st. Turn them in to your teacher with the student’s name. Birthday Grams - Announce your child's birthday on the Gidley school marquee. Come see Mrs. Clark for this fun opportunity to see your child's name displayed in lights on their special day. Cost is $5. Please make your reservation a week prior to their birthday. Birthday grams are available for purchase throughout the year, but don't wait. Get one today!
