OROVILLE CA. Weather is not the only thing warming up for northern California anglers, but also the race for the coveted Ram Trucks Guts and Glory Angler of... the Year award presented to the team that stays the most consistent over the Future Pro Tour's 5-event season. Leading the charge wtih this weekend’s event approaching, is the father-and-son team of Kevin and Kirby Wallace, veteran FPT anglers, who feel that their time has finally come to win the coveted award they have spent many years trying to obtain, as they came out swinging at the tour’s season opener with a dominant performance at the California delta. And this Lake Oroville event is not only significant for the 2021 AOY race, but also for those who missed the first event of the year, as it represents the last chance to complete the 4 out of 5 events requirement needed to qualify for the 2021 FPT Classic championship, where the keys to a new boat will be awarded to the 19th pair of FPT Classic champions. Youth Angler’s League AOY race underway! The Youth Angler’s League presented by Gone Fishin’ Marine, River2Sea, and Daiwa, is also underway as youth from 5 to 18 years old get the opportunity to - FOR NO ENTRY FEE, develop their angling skills against youth within their same age group, to win guaranteed cash for the top three places, as well as customized awards for their efforts. Leading the charge in the Youth Angler League’s Kid’s Division (for ages 5-11) is James freshly faded Dammann, who winning top honors in the 2020 FPT Youth championship, is also looking to capture a AOY title in the Kids division. In the Youth Angler League’s Youth Division (for ages 12-18), Timothy Albrecht also leads the way on the strength of a top performance at the tour’s season opener on the California delta. Tim who incidentally fishes as a team with his dad, can also boast that he has helped them make it to the FPT Classic championship for two consecutive years, and was also the runner-up in the 2020 Youth Angler League Championship. Oroville is ready to go.so we hope to see you all as well as our youth, at the Bidwell Marina ramp bright this Saturday morning, where limited memberships of just $10 will be available for those that can only fish one event. See you there! Good luck to all of our youth!

Are you looking for information on your favorite marine fish, invertebrate, algae, or plant? CDFW’s Marine Region now provides a user-friendly way to look up sp...ecies, harvest and management information on the new CDFW Marine Species Portal: https://marinespecies.wildlife.ca.gov./ The California Marine Species Portal is searchable by species common or scientific name, region, type of fishery, fishing gear, and species category or group. The portal includes recent data and available scientific research in Enhanced Status Reports for 35 select state-managed species. There is also Species-at-a-Glance information for 57 non-ESR species. More species are being added as information is completed. In addition to this helpful material, there are beautiful scientific Illustrations of each species by artists Amadeo Bachar, Claudia Makeyev, Lorraine Sinclair, and Paul Johnson like the ones featured below.

Fishing for adult Chinook salmon on the Upper Trinity River is now closed. The quota has been met. Anglers are still allowed to fish for and keep jack Chinook s...almon -- less than or equal to 23 inches. Anglers may still fish for adult Chinook salmon in the Lower Trinity sector, but all other sections are now closed to adult harvest. See more

We sure hope you’re as excited as this young guy -- Kai Nishimura of Sacramento -- for the Balance of the State waterfowl season, which opens tomorrow, Oct. 24.... If you’re out hunting on CDFW’s wildlife areas or the national wildlife refuges this season, please take a minute to thank the staff for the tremendous work they put in during the off-season to make these public lands safe and accommodating for all hunters and guests this hunting season. Be sure to check the 2020 CDFW Wildlife Area Operational Changes due to COVID-19 webpage ahead of any visit: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Lands/COVID-19

California’s Inland Chinook Salmon Program, which provides recreational angling opportunities for Chinook salmon in deep-water lakes and reservoirs from Fresno ...to Trinity counties, was jeopardized by the Glass Fire until the Feather River Fish Hatchery in Oroville stepped in to help save the year’s production of fish. This teamwork will have long-reaching effects for thousands of anglers in Central and northern California. See more
