When I caddied at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, OR, I would meet golfers of different skill levels on a daily basis. Becoming quickly acclimated to their particular playing style was essential to get the best out of every player. The first question I usually asked after the formalities was how far they hit there 7 or 8 iron. The response was usually "Um, about 140, maybe 150 if I hit it good". This is typical of the average golfer. They don't know how far they ...hit their clubs and usually guess what club to use. Knowing EXACTLY how far you hit every club is imperative to playing your best golf. Go to a driving range over the course of the next few months and hit 30 shots with each club. Only count the one's you hit good. After determining how far you hit each club, check to see if there are any large gaps (over 15 yds) or overlaps(hitting clubs the same distance). Utilizing all 14 clubs in your bag is another step to drop those strokes. See more

Don't let the impending rain keep you from improving your game. Indoor work in front of a mirror or putting on your carpet can keep you fresh and really allow you to focus on fundamentals without worrying about the results. Remember, the more we do something, even if for only 10 minutes, the more nerve passages our brain creates to remember that action. Also read a good golf book. Check out Dr. Bob Rotella or Michael Murphy!!!

Video lessons and highlights coming soon!!! Also join us at Lake Redding Golf Course tomorrow at 1pm for Surprise Golf!!! What's everyone's favorite golf movie?? Tin Cup #1, Caddyshack is a better movie but doesn't equate as a better "golf movie" in my book!

Everyone has had that great stretch of holes where they feel like they can't miss. This is what is knows as being in "the zone". We often wonder what "the zone" is, how we got in it, and how can we get into it again? Being in "the zone" is not a state of mind like most people think. It is actually a state of No Mind. Fear, doubt, & tensions all originate in the mind and usually produce our not so good golf. When the mind quiets, transcending not only the negative, but a...lso the positive, we become our true nature. We relax and and stay out of our own way, allowing our instinct to control our actions. Dropping the mind means dropping expectations, reactions, & those pesky fears and doubts. But how do we just "drop the mind"? For starters, slow down the mind & focus only on one task; perhaps a simple swing thought or your breathing. Quieting the mind is the first step to getting "into the zone" more often. This will produce less tension, more fun, & set you on your way to better scores!! See more

The golf season here in Redding is in full swing. Get your game sharp this year by developing a plan. Keeping stats is a wonderful way to find out which parts of your game are lacking and which parts are functioning. For starters keep track of fairways missed (right or left), greens in regulation, putts per round, putting percentage from 6 feet & in, and hazards hit. Knowing exactly what to work on can make your practice sessions so much more productive. Efficiency is essential to produce the desired results.
