With buildings accounting for 36% of global energy use, addressing the built environment’s impact on climate change is both a moral and business imperative. At Gensler, our goal is to make all the buildings we design net carbon zero by 2030. To achieve this, we are designing buildings that are net zero energy, choosing local and low-carbon materials, leveraging adaptive reuse strategies to bring older building back to life, and designing spaces and cities to adapt to the climate around us. Explore our strategies for designing a resilient and equitable future in Gensler’s latest Climate Action Through Design report below. #climateactionthroughdesign #gensler #genslerdesign #sustainability #climatechange #adaptivereuse #netzero #ESG #earthweek2021 #earthday2021
We’re thrilled to be part of the team impacting the future mobility of our city. The LA SkyRail Express team has united on one of the most consequential infrastructure projects to create a rapid-transit solution that will connect the San Fernando Valley to the Westside of LA and accessible to communities along the Sepulveda Transit Corridor. In addition to the station design, Gensler is participating in LA Metro’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Mentorship program and will be working closely with RAW International, echoing our firm’s commitment to equity and inclusion. At Gensler, we condemn all acts of hate against the Asian and Asian-American communities. We are horrified by the senseless murder of eight people, six of them ...women of Asian descent, in Atlanta on Tuesday evening. There is a long history of anti-Asian racism and violence in the U.S., and since the beginning of the pandemic, crimes targeting Asian-Americans have dramatically increased. We have no tolerance for racist rhetoric, nor do we condone anti-Asian hate in any form. We are committed to creating a just and equitable future. #stopasianhate #stopaapihate

"Everyone agrees that the city needs more housing for low-income and homeless Angelenos. But steep construction costs, insufficient housing subsidies, and time-consuming regulations have hampered efforts to meet the demand... But what if the design of affordable housing could address these?" Gensler Design Director Roger Sherman shares some insights on housing design solutions and concepts with Los Angeles Magazine, like incorporating sustainable design materials for a more energy-efficient and less-costly housing. #Gensler #housing #designforcommunity #architecture
Project Spotlight! Gensler's design for City of Hope's new Medical & Administrative Leadership Pavilion consolidates doctors’ offices into a 96,800 SF facility. As LEED Gold-certified, this building has an extensive solar farm on the roof and uses shading strategies to let natural light deep into the building while reducing heat gain. Designed as a conduit between the campus and the building, this building transforms the work environment into a celebratory place to interact with colleagues safely in the interests of pursuing a shared purpose. #sustainabledesign #architecture #greendesign #healthandwellness

With the global pandemic, we anticipate the growth of 20-minute cities. And what exactly are 20-minute cities? It is a concept that combines the de-centralizing of business districts where people conduct business and making more mobility choices available, especially to those who live in economically-challenged communities.
